It had taken the best part of four cups of coffee, but Georgie was feeling a lot more awake now. The excitement about seeing William was probably helping too, to be honest.
She hadn't lingered a single second after her shift had finished. Almost skipping with barely contained energy, she made her way quickly back to her quarters to get ready for her trip to the holodeck. She knew that she didn't have long. Just about long enough for a quick sonic shower, which she rushed through, washing her hair with speed.
She didn't have to browse through her wardrobe; she'd spent her afternoon figuring out what she was going to wear. Straightaway she pulled out a floral summery dress. It was mostly cream with large print poppies on it, with a full billowy skirt, short cap sleeves and a flattering sweetheart neckline. She slipped on a pair of white kitten heeled canvas shoes, and stood back to admire the effect in the mirror.
Not bad, she thought, and gave herself a small smile.
From the sideboard, she picked up a small, plain disc which was suspended from a simple chain. She clipped it around her neck, and it lay on her chest framed by the outline of the dress.
"Here we go," she said to herself, then left her quarters and made her way to the holodeck.
When she got there, she set up her programme to run, then locked entry to herself and William. She didn't want anyone else dropping in. Then she went inside.
The blue sky and slight sea breeze met her as the doors closed behind her and disappeared. Georgie sighed happily, breathing in the scent of meadows and fresh air. All around were rolling hills, and though you couldn't see it from there, the sound of the waves crashing softly against a shore tantalised the ears.
With a smile on her face, Georgie made her way through the lush green grass to a large oak tree. Easily, with the air of much practice, she climbed up the trunk and swung herself up onto the low, long branch. She balanced her way a few steps along the branch, then dropped down to sit on the rough bark. Her summery dress didn't offer much protection against the uneven surface, but Georgie didn't mind. Leaning back against the trunk of the tree, her legs free to sway in the breeze, she faced the doorway and waited for William to arrive.
