She had been sitting in her office trying to work on some needs for the ship so she could open negotiations with the local authorities. She had a request from Culinary along with Science and even the Arboretum wanted some specimens along with their care details.
But she just sat there and stared at the screen. Her mind kept wandering and she couldn’t seem to make it stay on track. It had been much easier when she was with the kids, their constant questions and needs kept her mind occupied.
Now she couldn’t keep her focus. The thing that made her a bit depressed was that it was her own darn fault. She kicked herself for a fool, she’d known better than to let a single drink touch her lips when she was in that mood.
But he didn’t have to take advantage of her state. He knew how she was. He knew how wine affected her. She wanted to scream with frustration but she couldn’t blame him for this. Not completely, as much as she would like to, she had to be honest with herself. She’d offered. OK, more like she’d thrown herself at him.
Besides, it had been just as astounding as she remembered. Thunder and lightning seemed to rumble through her at the memory and she shivered. It had been rain after a drought and both of them dying of thirst.
Then it occurred to her, “Oh god” she thought “How am I going to face him at dinner?” How was she going to watch him put food in that mouth that had done such things to her. She shook her head and then dropped it into her hands.
She was simultaneously, fulfilled, ashamed, humiliated, and elated.
“#$%^” she swore as she kicked the desk.
