This is a DS9 character for Liz, etc....if this isn't OK, just tell me. I couldn't find any material on whether I was limited to the three current or no.
Character's Name: Miley Yamaro
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Race: Human (Asian)
Physical Profile (height, build, weight, hair colour, eye colour, skin tone, race, etc.): Miley is slight, barely breaking five feet tall. She is slender, and sometimes seems ridiculously breakable. Her hair is black, straight, and cut short to her shoulders. Her face has the typical 'Asian' features- tannish skin, slightly slanted features, and dark eyes.
Birthplace: Earth, Japan, Kyoto
Preferred rank: Lieutenant JG
Department: Station Security
Personality: Miley's nature is hard to communicate. She is quiet yet talkative, friendly yet shy, and gentle yet incredibly bold.
Quiet and Shy
Around people she is not familiar with, Miley is often quiet. She doesn't enjoy socializing particularly, especially when forced to. She does well when with a team of people she knows very well, that she can work with time after time and learn their eccentricities and quirks. Even around people she does know well, she can be very quiet. She prefers to watch and learn about people through that medium; she is of the opinion that people who spout off generally miss a lot of things.
Friendly and Talkative
Adversely, Miley can be very friendly and talkative- if you warm up to her right. Miley is of such a personality that she almost requires people to like her; she needs it. So, she generally begins with being friendly herself, so that people will be more prone to reciprocate her friendship. When she is enjoying herself, and when she likes someone, she can be incredibly talkative, almost to the point of 'talking your ears off'.
Bold and Loyal
Miley, being a security officer, has found that the situations she is put in often require her to take the initiative and be bold. This she learned early in Academy, soon after she made the decision to become a sec officer. She effects the bold-loyal routine well, though she admits that she is often scared when put in situations that put herself and others in danger.
Background and History:
Miley was born to a Japanese family living in Kyoto. Her parents were fairly normal; her father was a scientist, her mother a stay-at-home mom who spent the majority of her time with her three children. Miley was preceded by an older twin set of brother and sister, Myoto and Kara. Since the two older children were twins, they often played together, to the exclusion of their younger sister.
But Miley was perfectly content to play on her own. She would invent bizarre games that she would act out in the courtyard on the top of their apartment building, zooming around in a hovercar or a spaceship or a evacsuit, all the while saving the day with her own talents and the help of a wooden phaser or repair instrument or secret weapon. She devoured books on space travel, weaponry, science, alien races...all of it was new and immensely wonderful to her.
She was seven when she met her first alien- a Vulcan boy whose parents moved into the building next door. His name was Sarok, and he and Miley became fast friends- he in the dry, emotionless way he had been taught, she with all the ardor and warmth of an imaginative human child. They got along well despite their differences. Miley taught Sarok all she knew about Earth, Sarok taught her all about Vulcan.
It was from Sarok that Miley first heard of StarFleet. It was his aim in life to join that venerable institution- and the idea instantly caught hold of Miley. At her instigation, they solemnly signed a "pact" that they would both enter StarFleet.
Throughout the years, Miley and Sarok's paths diverged- he returned to Vulcan to go to school, she stayed on Earth, but they never lost contact. When Miley was 17, she traveled to San Francisco to take the entrance exams for StarFleet Academy. She passed, and to her surprise, found that Sarok was already there- a solemn two-yearer who was full of logic and plans.
But they were still the same at heart, and easily bonded. Sarok and Miley became even better friends through their three years together in the Academy, and in fact, Miley even began to develop a bit of a crush on the Vulcan. A year before her own graduation, Sarok left the Academy to become an officer. Miley got through her own last year, and graduated as a full-fledged security officer.
Her first posting was on the USS Horizon. She served for a scant three months on board that vessel, then was transferred to the USS Integrity, and from thence to the USS Plymouth. It was here she finally caught up with Sarok. He was not serving on board the Plymouth, but was on her sister ship, the USS Mayflower. The two ships stayed together for several months, and during this time (for reasons known only to himself, though Miley had a few good guesses), Sarok orchestrated his own transfer from the Mayflower to the Plymouth.
At this time, Miley was almost 23 years old, and Sarok (by Miley's sneaking around in his personell file) was some 56 years old. It was during their time on the Plymouth that the romance between them began to blossom. Despite his studied disavowal of emotion, Sarok found he could not ignore his feelings for Miley, and as for Miley herself- well, she had known for a long time that she liked Sarok, and she wasn't going to deny it if asked.
The two began a courtship that would span two and a half years. By the time Miley was 26, she and Sarok were quite committed- in fact, they were considering marriage. However, Sarok's parents had different plans. Sarok had been betrothed when a child to a girl on Vulcan, and his parents were fully committed to that path, regardless of Sarok's personal feelings. Sarok returned to Vulcan to attempt to convince his parents, but they would not budge from their position- Miley was a human, not worthy of marrying Sarok. Marry the Vulcan Sarok would, unless he wished to cut off all ties to his parents.
Torn, Sarok requested a temporary transfer from the Plymouth, to gain time to gather his thoughts. In the meantime, Miley, sure she wouldn't come out on the good end, accepted a transfer to Deep Space 9 as a security officer, determined to forget the Vulcan she felt had abandoned her.

Sample Roleplay:
"There it is." Miley moved up to the front of the shuttle, stooping so she could peer out of the shuttle windows. Deep Space Nine, the hub of the Gamma-Alpha Quadrant border. She stared at it- the round metal surface, the jutting docking arms...
The pilot, a Betazoid man, glanced up at her. Miley looked back, abashed. "Sorry." he had repeatedly asked her to try to stay back just a bit, because he was having trouble blocking out her...strident emotions. She moved back into the back, and sat down on the bench.
Pulling her knees up to her chest, she folded her arms around them and perched her chin on the shelf formed by them. Her eyes stayed on the ever-closer view of the station. It was beautiful. And so big. She'd never have time to do anything but explore. She could look around until the day she died and never see it all, she was quite sure. And then there were all the ships that came and went, and the aliens she'd see...
A delighted sigh drifted past her lips. Finally. A place she could really stretch out in, and enjoy. Even without....
No. She had promised herself she wouldn't think about That. Stubbornly setting her jaw, she watched as the pilot flew them into the cavernous docking bay. "Thanks Lieutenant!" she called out as she grabbed up her storage containers. He answered enthusiastically, and she rushed off the shuttle as the ramp went down.
A new posting, a new life, a chance to start again...
