Second character for Liz Sur'Shess
Character's Name: Taniya Marie Voth
Age: 25
Gender: female
Race: human
Physical Profile (height, build, weight, hair colour, eye colour, skin tone, race, etc.): Taniya is about 5"4. She is slender, and her fair skin and hair make her seem even more slight. She has brownish-blond hair that reaches to her shoulders, and brown eyes that either sparkle with good humor or are staring into the distance.
Birthplace: Luna
Preferred rank: Ensign
Department: Engineering
Personality: Taniya is very quiet generally. She doesn't speak much, simply observes. She is, however, quite kind, and is always ready to say a nice word about someone when called upon. She can't stand gossip or bad-mouthing of anyone- even her worst enemy!
Taniya does, however, have a bad habit of daydreaming. If not into her work, she is apt to retreat into her own little world, and stay that way until recalled into reality. This is what has given her a bad reputation amongst some of the engineering community, despite her abilities. She dislikes the holodeck, preferring a simple book or just a story out of her own imagination. THe holodeck, to her, is an alternate reality that just simply isn't 'real'- it is made up, in the most blatant way.
Taniya will get riled up occasionally. If she sees injustice being committed, or gross mismanagement of a task around her, she isn't afraid to speak up. She will make her opinion known- but in a nice, gentle way that won't hurt her hearer's feelings.
Background and History:
Taniya was born to a wandering-eyed man and his young wife. The man, an ex-StarFleet officer (discharged dishonorably after several disreputable acts), met her mother on Risa. Taniya's mother was instantly struck by his good looks and dashing manner, and fell swiftly into infatuation. Her father, despite not particularly liking the young girl, entered into the relationship from boredom. They married, and went to Luna to be with her parents. Some two months later, she found out that she was pregnant. Despite the blow, Taniya's father took it in stride. He stayed with her mother through term, and seemed enamored with the baby he had helped create.
Unfortunately, it wasn't to last. Taniya's father was hurt at his work- that of a miner. He was burnt badly. Taniya's mother did her best to care for him, and all the best medical care was used, to no avail. He lived, but his face was permenantly scarred. This was a terrible blow to a man who had gotten everything by his good looks. Scared, and unsure of what to do, he fled from his wife and young daughter. He roved over the galaxy for years, leaving his family on Luna. Meanwhile, Taniya grew. The little girl never understood why her mother was so sad, until she realized that other little girls and boys had dads, but she didn't. Taniya perceived that something was wrong with this picture, and began to inquire of her mother about her father.
Her mother didn't seem eager to talk about the subject, and as time went on, Taniya stopped asking. She didn't want to hurt her mother. When Taniya was 11, she discovered her father's original pursuit- that of a StarFleet officer. She was now determined. Besides, she liked makign things work, and figuring out problems. So, she began to study. When she was 15, her father made his reappearance. He simply came to the door one day, and knocked. Taniya came to the door, and he stared. He knew who it must be, but he wasn't at all sure what to do. Taniya invited the man in. He had extensive scarring on one side of his face still, but she wasn't scared at all. Then, Taniya's mother came. The reunion didn't last very long, but it was joyful.
At last, Taniya's family was whole again. Her father was perfectly content to settle down and build a life for himself and his family. When he heard of Taniya's dream, he told her he would do all in his power to help her. It turned out he himself had been a (rather unsuccesful) engineer, and he taught her all he knew. Because of this, she was fairly well prepared when she went to take the exams at 18. She passed with flying colors, and entered her new life as a StarFleet Cadet. 4 years later, at 22, she graduated, and was posted to a small vessel known as the USS Pullman. Taniya stayed there nearly a year, then was reposted to Deep Space Nine. After being there for six months, she was sent to the USS Endeavor. Just a few months ago, she received notice that she was being reposted yet again, to the USS Peregrin.

Sample Roleplay:
Taniya pushed her way through the throngs of people that crammed the corridor of Deep Space Nine. This is what she had hated about the station when she had been stationed here, she remembered. The everlasting crowds of people, all of them pressing in and crushing her. But she'd finally be on a ship that didn't have this many people again.
If, that was, she could reach the transporter room, or even just the docking arm. She'd be happy with either. A nice, long walk all the way to the Peregrin, or a nice, smooth transport to the same. Either would be just peachy.
Every now and then, Taniya caught sight of an old friend or crewmate- a long-time occupant of Deep Space 9, the people that kept the wheel floating in space, caught in the invisible fabric of space. Now and again, Taniya would pass by a window that looked out, and she could see the stars, and just a corner of the wormhole that led into the unfathomable deeps of the Gamma Quadrant.
Taniya's breath quickened when she thought of the other quadrants. She was one of those people who would have liked to have been on Voyager, that ship of near-legend that had been caught in the Delta Quadrant, a formerly virtually unknown region of space. Unexplored, presenting thousands of engineering and piloting hazards, filled with species that no one had ever seen before...
Taniya grinned. Well, this was the next-best thing. Almost. She finally broke into a clearing in the corridor, and made some headway. Finally, she reached the transporter room. Smiling at the officer in charge, she stepped up onto the pad, setting her storage containers, full of her belongings, on the smooth surface next to her, and sent a nod to the officer.
She was finally on her way.
