While shipboard quarters were more than adequate, especially for a Lieutenant Commander, they always felt a little too sterile, too conformist for Stetson. Granted, they were a heck of a lot better than the living space he had growing up, especially when on the reservation in West Texas. Even so, he preferred a more homey look that the drab walls and color that currently surrounded him.
Of course, the dream catcher went above the bed. As hokey as it seemed to many people, Stetson knew, from first hand experience, that it truly was an effective deterrent to malcontent spirits. It was always the first thing to go up and the last to take down.
His collection of peace pipes followed on another wall. The fact that these pipes played such a significant role in his philosophy had surprised many over the years; they thought that, as a Security officer, he would favor some sort of weapons on the wall. Mind you, he DID have a rather extensive collection of tomahawks, but they were, for the most part, back home on Earth.
"Computer, Celtic music, bagpipes and hammered dulcimer, medium volume" Stetson requested. As the soothing chords of his paternal ancestry resounded through his quarters, Stetson unpacked the other pipes he loved - an ancient set of bagpipes, Clan McPherson tartan on the bag, ebony chanters with ivory touches. "Can't wait to get the chance to play these for some of the crew. It'll be music to some, torture to others, I know, but it's so much fun to find out the hard way" he thought as he laughed. The pipes went on a special stand and became a centerpiece of the room.
Putting the rest of his gear away and in order, Stetson began to prepare to leave his quarters and make his way to the Security Office. He needed to get his work together for his meeting with the Skipper and the subsequent meeting with the members of his department, He was looking forward to meeting his Assistant Security Chief - a Cardassian, no less - and having a long sit down with Ensign Kinin - IF she was back from visiting sick bay, as he had directed her to.
"Better to get this done before we leave DS9, just in case" Stetson thought. "Last thing I need is to start the mission understaffed."
With that, Stetson started gathering his stuff in preparation for leaving his quarters.
