Like the crew, Owen had to go on Deep Space Nine and see what he can enjoy. He had decided to stay away from Quarks. The establishment had a great reputation of being the good, the bad and the ugly but that was the area of the base Owen did not fancy. He had like his wallet of credit and not caring to spend it or being stolen.
It was weird for Owen because he was alone. He had declined offers from his fellow nurses who all wanted to hang out. He wasn’t up to it. It was like he wasn’t sure how to mingle with other people from out of work. He did mingle with Darby in the crew lounge and that had made Owen think more about his behavior and wanting to make a change.
So, Owen had decided to walk about the shops to see if he could be inspired to make a purchase to make an invention of the sort. He was disturbed how Angel had to exercise her hand. The muscles needed to be strengthen and he was wondering how one can make a better device to help to heal the hand.
Smiling of course the Nurse entered a pawn shop and a female Bajorian greeted Owen with a smile, “Welcome,” she said smiling. The Bajorian was near middle age for her race. She had ginger shoulder length hair, a little heavy set for her race but she was attractive still. The staff member had allowed Owen to glance the store to give him time to see what the store had offered. It was bad business to start talking with the guest and not give them time for the guest thoughts to adjust to their surroundings.
Owen had his blue long sleeve shirt on with black Starfleet trousers. It was the causal look he had decided for his little stroll on the base. He saw something that caught his eye. It was a foam substance that was grown on Bajor.
Now, the female shop keeper had to interact, “That’s aabala foam, grown from an algae plant name aabala found in the southern hemi sphere of Bajor.” Her eyes had looked at Owen’s face. She saw he was thinking. “May I ask what made you interested in the foam?”
Arching both of his eyebrows because he had the lack of raising one eyebrow, he turned his head to the Bajor. “Does it have memory cells?”
She wrinkled her nose when she smiled at him. “Yes, you can…if I may?” she took the foam him and she was playing with it. And she held it up. “You can see it goes back in its form.”
Owen was smiling more, “That is fascinating. How much?” she told him the price and it was expensive and it was about eighty percent of Owen’s savings for special occasions. “You know what?”
The female perked up on her toes because she was short for her race. “What?”
“I buy it. And if you don’t mind I take a business card. I do want to be sure I will be able to contact for the future,” said Owen looking hungry at the foam. He had plans for the form. He had an invention that the foam will do perfectly.
So, she rang up for the transaction and she was very pleased on his the sales. It was her biggest sales but she sensed it was for some good cause. There was no cheating on sale. She wished she could have more customers like Owen. She had hoped to meet him again.
Now, having the foam Owen was on his way to with another invention. The first person he could use it on is Angel. The problem was this he knew he had shown a bad impression on her. As a Nurse it was his duty to follow through patience process of healing. This was going to be a challenge. And who said there was conflict in the stars of the universe.
He had accomplished his personal mission he headed back to the USS Talon.
End Owen
