With everything in order for the backup station she rushed to her quarters to pick up her specialized tools, Learning Translator and her reference PADD with all the personal notes that she had yet to put into the Ships libraries. Her heart was beating like a drum with excitement at the prospect of possible first contact.
'When it rains, it pours!' She thought.
She knew it may be a long couple of days so she grabbed a parfait with yogurt, blueberries, strawberries and granola and a cup of coffee from the replicator. Sitting down at the table she began to look for any references to red haired aliens with purple eyes.
After going through her notes and reviewing known possibilities for the quadrant she sat back in her chair enjoying Mozart while finishing her cooling cup of coffee.
Then she looked around the room and saw that she hadn't really put any of her personal touches in yet. She got her holocube out of her box and placed it on the sofa table. Then she replicated a vase with a single yellow rose to go along side it. The replicator didnt always get flower fragrances just right but they came really close with roses.
Moving around the room she adjusted the lighting in various areas changing it from a clinical look to something more decorative with uplighting of a plant in the corner and focus for her mother's portrait on the wall.
She pulled out her Hang gliding trophy plaque from her Senior Year at Starfleet Academy. She'd come in second in her class competition by going the farthest in a single flight she'd been happy to grab several wonderful updrafts. It was exhilirating to fly without any anti grav though it make her mother crazy when she'd found out. She stroked the frame and hung it on the wall in an out of the way corner.
Then as the music changed to Gilbert and Sullivan she began humming at first but then belting it out...
"I am the very model of a modern Major-General,
I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I know the kings of England, and I quote the fights historical
From Marathon to Waterloo, in order categorical;
I'm very well acquainted, too, with matters mathematical,
I understand equations, both the simple and quadratical,
About binomial theorem I'm teeming with a lot o' news,
With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse.
I'm very good at integral and differential calculus;
I know the scientific names of beings animalculous:
In short, in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Major-General. "
