“If anyone steals anything I'll let you deal with it, the security here are just terrifying. I get the feeling I'm going to get arrested for playing truant off school or something when they look at me.”
He paused again, looking at her and again had to remind himself that it was not Trudi. His expression grew rueful and contemplative as he had been after her death once the anger and pain died down. Oh, he had plenty of regrets and only the future to deal with it in. He scratched his jaw and and shifted his weight for a moment before he gave a response.
"I don't mind doing overtime," he replied softly with a gentle smile through his accent, which had always continued be some strange mix of American and German... the two fighting for dominance. "It's something I know well," No doubting that for anyone with brains. MACOs were efficient and got the job done for ops, special or otherwise.
"I'll be there if you need me," He meant it... he knew it was hard going it alone, the dangers of going solo and making a start in the world regardless of whether it was wanted or not. She had talent and Carlos could see a definite amount of buyers and traders taking interest but he hoped she would not let herself be taken advantage of.
“Don't worry I'll scream really loudly so the whole damned station knows somethings up.”
“I could probably scream the station down in a bad mood.”
He smiled deeply and inclined his head at her, "I'll hold you to that," his German winning over his American, the sound deep and ingrained, somewhat suiting his heavy face. He returned to the work till the walls that were out of her reach were all covered in painted canvas and he stood back to admire each and every one. He might just have to buy one of these for his own room as soon as it was sorted out by Ellyena.
"How much more till you're done unpacking?" he asked softly knowing this hard work by both of them deserved some grub and a drink.
