Vek was aware of the fact that he was rubbing his hands together in a somewhat maniacal fashion as Senneh cautiously sniffed the Romulan wine. It, like most things the Romulans produced, was quite deceptively potent. His buyer had pitched it as "almost guaranteed to get a woman out of her trousers." This was the first time he'd had the opportunity to bring it out, but he hoped that it wouldn't let him down.
If it didn't work, he hoped that if he drank enough of it, it would let him down. In a manner of speaking.
She took a very small sip of the concoction, and Vek had to try hard to contain his disappointment. To his credit, he plastered an innocent smile on his face quite quickly, yet he was relatively certain that she'd noticed the frown that preceeded it.
"I don't suppose it's easy to come by, is it?"
"Oh, it definitely isn't. This was actually procured by my father during the Dominion War, when hostilities with the Romulans ceased for a period. His buyer still has a few cases that he owes me. Now that the conflict has escalated once again between the Federation and the Romulans, it will be near impossible to get new stock though." Although Vek pretended that he was saddened by this fact, in reality he was quite glad. Federation connections would likely never get a deal with a Romulan trader. But Ferengi on the other hand...
Well, there were definite perks to being less than honorable.
"And we've gone to yellow alert."
"Yellow alert? I wonder why..." Vek mused. Somehow he suspected it might have something to do with the earlier rumors. And though he pretended to be dismayed by that fact, he was secretly thrilled. There were few things better for business than uncertainty. Yellow alert meant there were still plenty of off duty Starfleet officers with credits to blow. he just hoped it didn't escalate to red alert. Civilians were far more careful with their gold pressed latinum.
