Character's Name:
Roland Jefi II
Age:
24
Gender:
Male
Race:
Human/Betazoid
Physical Profile
Mildly lanky. 6’0”. Gently tanned. Black irises seem to be a startling contrast with the pallid sclera and are surrounded with dark lashes and brows. Dark chestnut hair, grown to the collar to tame a cowlick at the mild widow’s peak.
---
Birthplace:
Lake Cataria, Betazed
Preferred rank:
Lieutenant JG
Department:
Engineering→ Warp Drive Specialist
Personality
Calm and collected, Roland has an obvious façade of humor, trying to mimic the emotions of those around him the best to his lacking abilities. Though he easily gets trapped in his work, most simply would believe him to be the average workaholic. Slipping into his seemingly formal and blunt disposition is a rarity on social occasions, but isn’t unheard of. Lacking the ability to stress and panic makes him a perfect candidate for meticulous jobs in times of chaos, though the same lack of the ability to love and sympathize makes him the worst candidate for true commanding positions.

Background and History
Mother (Betazoid): Suzanni Raex-Jefi
Father (Human): Roland Jefi Senior
Shortly after the Battle of Betazed, the marriage of Suzanni and Lieutenant Roland Jefi Senior was celebrated in a well tended Betazed garden. Years after the marriage, the conception of Roland Jefi II was the joy of the young mother, leaving her to celebrate the life growing within her for the blooming ten months of her pregnancy. Though a worry did tug at her subconscious of not being able to feel the child within her as most mothers seemed to be able to, she was delighted with the knowledge of a healthy and well-behaved child. Suzanni simply assumed her child was more of his father than most cross-bred children.
On the day of his birth, Roland was quiet, not crying physically or mentally with the mildly traumatizing process of childbirth. He was simply observant, absorbent. Normally, cross-bred children had a weak, if present, ability of telepathy and a powerful sense of empathy. Roland, however, seemed to be the polar opposite—unable to comprehend feeling he should feel and the emotions of those around him. Tough he was able to grow up in a relatively normal childhood, he still is weak in his ability to mimic the emotions of those around him and often slips into his natural sharp persona when distracted with a monotonous yet meticulous task.
After taking and passing the entry exam to the Starfleet Academy, he quickly absorbed the information presented to him and finished the final exam by mimicking his father’s motto of “never leave a man behind.” It was rumored that if he hadn’t mimicked the emotion and never entered the neutral zone, he would have failed the Academy.

Sample Role-play
“You’ll do fine, Roland. Simply remember to take deep breaths and do what your gut tells you.” Giha, the Starfleet Academy examination technician, spewed his (at this point) automatic strokes of confidence, hoping to strike relaxation into the cadets of the Academy without much thought.
Roland simply ran his fingers over the panel of the computer, absorbing the sight before him, trying to take everything in before the actual exam started. He wasn’t nervous; it wasn’t in his ability to be. If one wished to monitor his heartbeat, it would beat steadfast- perfectly relaxed. His ears heard Giha, but his mind categorized the information as unimportant to him thus far.
On the computer before him, an oval “neural” zone was obvious along with Klingon battle cruisers. His starship was patrolling the edge of the elongated section of the oval before a soft hum emitted as a distorted hologram tried to appear, only to fail. The data display scrolled across the viewscreen of the computer, quickly informing “Captain” Roland Jefi II that the USS Kobayashi Maru had been struck by a gravitic mine and the hull was breached. The ship was reported to have lost all power and the life support was failing. Location of the suffering ship soon scrolled across the screen, positioning it to be located in Gamma Hydra, section ten, nineteen periods out of Altair VI.
To get to the USS Kobayashi Maru and save the occupants was the obvious task of the exam, but Roland absently tapped his fingers as he logically thought out the two options. He could follow orders and stay out of the neutral zone, thus avoiding conflict with the guarding Klingon battle cruisers. This could be the passing option, to save one ship instead of risking the loss of two. Or he could order his ship into the neutral zone and try to avoid the cruisers as much as possible to get to the quickly failing ship in hopes to save the lives of those who depended on his support. There wouldn’t be enough time to get to the ship while maneuvering around the neutral zone.
Almost about to pick the most logical option of leaving the other ship to suffocate its inhabitants but not risking the loss of two full crews, his father’s favorite motto surfaced into his mind: “Never leave a man behind, child. You never know when that man might be the one who’ll have to save you later on.”
Roland pressed the ship on into the neutral zone, the battle cruisers quick to acknowledge the trespassing starship and attack—they’d ask questions later. Taking over the majority of the escape himself, the cadet quickly tried to program his ship to avoid as many attacks from the trio of cruisers as possible, demanding for speed and agility from his ship. His shields were starting to fail as a part of him noted that he was nearly out of the neutral zone. As he forced the little ship out of the zone as he continued, not even looking to see if the cruisers cared to pursue him.
The screen dimmed to nothing as he neared the USS Kobayashi Maru, noting the end of the test. Roland waited to be alerted of a pass or failure as text scrolled across the black background of the data display:
Ability to obey commands: FAILURE
Examination score: PASSING
