He was off duty but even when he was, things were decidedly devoid of patients for a moment beyond the odd evaluation and even then that was pretty standard. Charles knew things would be slow for the first six months or so. Everyone was still finding their feet, even the civilian section. He leaned forwards, head resting in the crook of a hand whilst his elbows wobbled slightly on the smooth surface of his standard Starfleet issue desk. He wondered how Zakhara was doing, whether she was finding her path yet or whether she was still finding things difficult to bear.
That sort of thing could really knock one of their podium at the unexpected moment and Charles had seen it countless times through a myriad of different patients. His eyes flickered closed before flickering back open in response to a soft beeping that stopped after the third beep. He stared at it for a moment before he opened the right menu to see what it was.
A message from home. His lips quirked slightly before he opened it and read the contents, which was strange in itself. Most communiques from them were recorded image. This was completely in text which suggested it was done in haste with a thought that Charles should be aware of a situation that he could do very little about from where he was in the universe.
Steven was in trouble again and Charles sighed, shaking his head. He could never take his brother anywhere without something happening and he hoped his folks back home along with Suzan, who seemed to be behind sending him the news, could sort him out. Steven had to know that Charles could not always be there to get him out of situations and sort his head out. Yet Charles was only too aware that he was probably the only shrink in the universe Steven would listen to without question of trust issues.
Suzan had not listed what it was exactly Steven had supposedly done only that he had done something to upset local authorities which of course meant the local establishment of police. He shook a hand through his greying hair as he looked the message over several more times. No doubt he would eventually get some kind of call from his brother or the authorities from there for help.
Charles had left a message at his office if anyone needed him that they could call by but the memory of having done so went out of his mind as he lost himself to the possibilities of what this situation back home was. Steven always had been a hothead and it seemed that years over his younger brother meant nothing to wizen the man to reason.
He sighed and got up for a hot steaming mug of coffee before he sat by the small window to further his contemplations and what a possible future contact could entail.
