"I don't believe that will work, sir."
Alex nodded in agreement, "Yes, however I believe it is worth a try? Anything undone, could be the answer." He said with a kind smile. The female forced a smile in response at the man's odd turn of phrase. Still she had to agree, they had done lots of different modifcations to the sensors to try and explain that ghostly anomaly they've been having, though she doubted this new idea of the Chief's would work, it was worth a try. She was the only one assigned to the task now that the Talon had a new assignment. She was about to say something else to the Chief when an ensign walked up to him.
"Core manifold report, sir."
Alex turned to the man, "Thank you kindly." He said taking the PADD, the ensign began to turn but was stopped by a quick halt gesture in the air. "One thing, Ensign Traplesky." The ensign cringed, turning around. "Yes sir?"
"You did not report in last night, would you care to explain as to why?" Alex asked simply, his face was largely devoid of any anger, or even irritation.
"I uh, had a uh, important agressive engagement."
Alex frowned, had he been in a fight? "Were you injured? I did not recieve any notifications from sickbay."
Traplesky flushed a little, "It was, with a woman. A friend, she recieved a message from her home, she was very distraught." He cleared his throat, "I'm sorry sir, I know I should have told you but... I will make up for it tonight, sir."
Alex regarded the man for a long moment, "Your duty comes first, Ensign." He said but then smiled warmly at the man. "However I admire your loyal compassion to your friend, please remember to alert me should you be adamantly unavailable."
Traplesky blinked, surprised. Was the Chief letting this go? At least it was the actual truth, he had been quite worried about his friend. Thankfully he had managed to convince her to see a counselor.
"Thank you sir,"
"How is she?" Alex asked, he believed the man was telling the truth, he just hoped that he would remember in the future.
"She's okay now, she's still a little shaken up from Salor." The ensign said, though on a more quiet tone. It was a not a popular subject, and only served to remind people of the horros that had happened down there.
Alex nodded, furthering the conversation by suggesting some key beverages that were good for calming down one's anxiety, the man listened intently, or it seemed so anyway. The female engineer had been listening in for the most part, the only thing she got out of it was that if you had a good enough sob story, you might just get out of a shift or two. Good to know.
