Oliver's mind was clear. It was the sort of serenity he could only find when tending plants, the sort that he'd discovered as a small boy in his grandmother's vast garden. The smell of moist earth took him right back there--- his parents away, the freedom of nature. He used to sniff all of the roses, never missing one, never wanting any rose to feel left out. Those were Earth roses, and they had their own charm. Thinking of their familiar scents and colours made Oliver feel a little homesick. It was a little overwhelming to be constantly surrounded by people, technology, and the newness of everything.
The Science Lab would have to serve as an escape for the moment. If he focused on the task at hand--- tending to these plants--- he could easily forget where he was. There was beauty to be found even in those sterile walls. His eyes kept straying back to his new found love--- a Chameleon Rose. It was hard to believe it wasn't sentient at times. How else could it have such an acute sense of human emotions.
He'd been trying to think of names for the rose. It was a silly habit he had, naming plants like pets. But, it occupied him. He ran a finger against one of the golden leaves affectionately. "It's like you can speak..." He sighed, blissfully, noting the change in colour as the rose petals reflected his pensive mood. "You'd have liked my rose garden on Earth."
Right... noob posting here. I guess I'm supposed to tag or something at this point? Soooo Tag: Anyone.
Oh, and bonus: Here's the soundtrack that inspired this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAde4cmtpK8
