Sitting back in an easy chair, Siobhan savoured the precious moments of her son's sleep pattern as a chance to relax. She'd not long returned from another tiring shift and her head was still full to truly chill out. She glanced to a PADD lying on a small table beside her chair and sighed. This particular device contained some of her favourite reading material, but she was in no mood to read it. In fact, she was highly curious about the oysters that most of the crew, including herself, had received from a shipment from the Aquirans. She knew not who they were, but she had heard about what the pearls within the oysters were supposed to do to those who touch them.
Many of the crew had already opened theirs and there reactions had been vastly different each time. The most amusing was probably Ens. Tanner, a man who was often teased for apparent tone deafness, began singing a near perfect tenor in the middle of main engineering! All present were highly amused, if not relieved that Cmdr. Tykat wasn't present for the spectacle, otherwise it was highly likely that young Tanner would be singing soprano about now. She giggled at the thought although it almost put her off touching her own pearl. Still, what was the worst that could happen, she thought as she reached out?
Siobhan's head was swimming as she slammed the oyster closed, eyes wide in shock as she did so. What had she just seen and more importantly, was someone in danger? She didn't know what these trinkets from what she assumed was a vision of sorts were exactly and nor had she seen the faces of the people selling them. Whatever those things were though, she had a nagging feeling that they were unsafe and possibly meant some kind of threat toward the children that these 'toys' were being directed and sold to by the mysterious, cloaked salespeople. It was likely nothing, but she couldn't just leave it right? What if this was a piece of knowledge given to her for a reason?
Shakily, she placed the oyster onto the table beside the PADD and made her way over to where her own child slept peacefully. If someone elses child could be in some kind of trouble then surely she was inclined to help. However, she had heard not to take any visions seen through the pearls too literally. There could be a figurative meaning behind this but she would need to talk to someone about it. She had until Ricky woke up to make her mind up as to whom and she slumped back down on her chair in an attempt to organise her thoughts. Perhaps putting the last few preparations into Ricky's birthday party, scheduled for later that day would help to take her mind off things.
End Siobhan
