Serious at times he can be a prankster at others. He is a serious respctor of the Prophets but not a mystic by any stretch. He is addicted to his engines and loves the ship like his own child. He'll not allow insults or mistreatment of her.
Background and History:
Renh was born to academic parents his father a professor and mother a scientist. Hardship in his early life gradually gave way due largely by the efforts of the Federation in restoration following the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor. He conceived a strong desire to attend Starfleet and along with a small cadre of Bajorans made his way there. He studied Operations and Engineering but found his love in the Engineering field. He's served on several ships but loves the Intrepid class. They say he's so attuned to the engines he can tell what is wrong just by listening to them.
His latest stint was at the Utopia Planitia shipyards and he was a project manager for the Peregrin build. He put his heart into that ship and knew her like the back of his hand. He was overjoyed when he received orders to report to Peregrin without delay as her new Chief Engineer.

Vaatrik Renh stood on the upper level of the Promenade of DS9 gazing at the wormhole as it erupted into view for the second time since he’d been standing there. The Celestial Temple and the way to the Gamma Quadrant… both immensely important.
Peregrin was out there beyond the wormhole and he needed to get to her, yet so far there were no rides available. Pioneer had been out there to transfer personnel but he’d missed her and now, she’d warped out for who knows where and he’d be stuck here cooling his heels until she returned or he could get another ride.
He’d sent a com to the ship to notify them of his presence but didn’t figure they’d be coming back for one person even if he was joining the crew as their new Chief Engineer. Ships had schedules and priorities and their current mission out there needed their full attention. He could kick the damn transport Captain who had delayed at their last stop before coming to the station so he’d missed her by one day… one effing day.
Well, to be fair they’d warped out on rather an emergency instead of waiting for him but that was Starfleet. ‘Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.’ He’d heard that somewhere… ‘meh… didn’t matter.’
He turned away from the panorama and stretched. He was going to find a place to work out.
