"He's done it again," Q said to the balance of the continuum.
"Yes he has," agreed several of the others.
"We have sanctioned him and condemned him for this behavior in the past, yet he persists." The entire conclave seemed to shake its collective heads in mystification. Mystification was quite a rare commodity amongst the Q and they spent quite a bit of time cherishing the feeling, at least several microseconds, before one of them finally returned to the subject at hand.
“He prefers to be called Darby.” This voice called from inside a nebula he was stirring to create more proto-stars.
“In any case,” another voice rang out. “His defiance must not be allowed to continue.”
“I am not certain it is defiance,” said Polgara.
“Are you not?” The prior speaker seemed almost offended that the Q known as Polgara would argue the point which seemed so obvious to him.
“No,” she returned politely. “I am not.” She refused to share her thoughts as to ‘why’ she might feel that way with the rest of them for the moment.
“Neither am I,” popped up another voice from the center of a nameless star where she was taking a spa treatment.
“Have you ever wondered what it is he has found there to interest him so intently?” Polgara let her words marinate in their collective consciousness for a few moments before the conclave spoke once more.
“Very well, you will investigate.”
“Me?” Polgara lifted a proverbial brow.
“Yes, as you have doubts, you will investigate and bring your report back. Then we will decide how to proceed.”
With a thought her new form coalesced from the ether of intergalactic space and perfect brown eyes rolled before she finally agreed.
Clothed in blue tendrils of nascent nebula her ‘mostly’ human form floated near a lovely purple planet and Space Station full of mixed races from nearby areas of the galaxy.
“They are very fragile, aren’t they Darby,” she said as she floated to a stop nearby.
