Personality: Artemis is very focussed on her work, the drive required to become joined still a large part of who she is. This same drive allows her to concentrate on whatever she sets her mind to. She can be relentless, almost to a fault sometimes. She is known as Art to her friends.
Background and History:
Born to loving, hard-working and dedicated parent, Artemis was pushed hard to succeed. Instead of rebelling against this pressure, Artemis embraced it, working hard at whatever she put her mind towards. As was the dream of almost every inhabitant of Trill, Artemis was driven towards joining. Her family encouraged her to pursue the usual avenues that would allow her to secure her dream.
Having spent a long time looking towards the stars as a child it seemed only natural that Art would pursue this hobby. A strong interest in the sciences led to her taking a degree in astrophysics. Although a first degree would usually be enough for most people Artemis and her family knew that the people responsible for Joining would be looking for something more.
Following her graduation she continued to follow her obsession, looking but not really touching, working hard towards a PhD in Theoretical Stellar Physics. A year after having her doctorate conferred, she was joined, becoming the second host to the Jocasta symbiote. Artemis was now 27.
The previous host had been a Starfleet officer. This awoke a dormant part of Artemis’ personality, an intense wanderlust. No longer was she content to just look at and study the stars, but she desired to actually get out amongst them, see them up close and feel a part of them. Accordingly she applied to the Academy and joined at 28.
Her intense drive however didn’t wane. Instead now it was focussed on graduating from the Academy and fulfilling her desires. After 4 quick years she graduated and was assigned to her first posting as a junior astrometrics officer. Out there in space she found the true wonders of the universe were at her very finger tips – far closer and more real than she could ever have imagined or had experienced on Trill.
Artemis Jocasta remained an ensign for 4 years, spending the time a couple of different ships. A promotion followed and yet another ship posting. Three years down the line she was promoted again to Lieutenant. Artemis was assigned to the Peregrin two years later to help chart the unexplored regions of the Gamma Quadrant – an opportunity that she found irresistible.

There it went again. She didn’t remember how long she’d spent stood there looking out the window on the upper level of the Promenade of Deep Space 9 watching the wormhole opening and closing as a steady stream of traffic made it’s way to and from the Gamma Quadrant.
The beauty, the spectacle still hadn’t grown old to her, but she needed to get closer, needed to see more. She’d read everything she could get her hands on about the wormhole, but seeing truly was believing. Tearing herself away she made her way quickly to her own private domain on the Peregrin. ‘Well, more or less mine,’ she thought to herself with a wry smile as she made her way down to astrometrics.
Entering the lab, she quickly tasked the ship’s sensors towards the wormhole, demanding as much time from them as she possibly could. ‘I wonder if the station could spare me some time too,’ she thought. Tapping a few buttons and a holographic projection of the wormhole appeared right in the middle of the room.
Walking round it, she reached out her hand, touching the projection tenderly. As she did so it blossomed once more, it was so close. Stepping back Art entered a few quick commands into the console, the projection changing to display different spectral elements of the wormhole, the reading now being projected alongside it. “Truly beautiful,” she whispered softly.
