Character's Name: Gwen Merrin (short for Guinevere, but she tries to avoid mentioning that!)
Age: 40
Gender: Female
Physical Profile (height, build, weight, hair colour, eye colour, skin tone, race, etc.): Shortish blonde hair, browny-grey eyes, human, of medium height and athletic build
Birthplace: Wales, UK, Earth
Preferred rank: Captain
Department: The whole ship!
Personality:
Gwen has a wicked sense of humour, though she's too good an officer to let it show a lot of the time. You can guarentee that she's probably got another name for you in her head, and how professional that nickname might be is very variable! Perhaps if you become good friends with her, she'll tell you... otherwise, you may never know what she really thinks of you. She's good at hiding her feelings towards others.
Gwen is a strong, courageous character. Quite ambitious, she has rose to the position of Captain quite quickly. She is compassionate but believes in following Starfleet regulations wherever possible.
Background and History:
At the Academy, Gwen trained as a pilot, with minors in engineering and science subjects. She graduated with the 24th century equivilient of a Sciences and Engineering degree; intermediate knowledge in warp core physics, flight control systems, aeronautics and astrometrics. From her first posting she was determined to impress her superiors and it didn't take long for her to be assigned to a ship as chief helmsman.
Working sometimes as a pilot and sometimes as an engineer, Gwen went from ship to ship, rising through the ranks. Her last placement, five years ago, came with her promotion to Commander and her appointment as First Officer on the USS Michigan, a long range research vessel in the Gamma Quadrant.
During a surprise attack by an unknown enemy, the Michigan's Captain and about thirty other crew members perished. Gwen was given a field promotion to Captain and ordered by Starfleet Command to bring the Michigan home.
The journey took about a month, and was a difficult one for Gwen and the crew. However, she managed to bring the ship back successfully, and so when she arrived back in the Alpha Quadrant she was granted a proper promotion to Captain, and assigned to the newly comissioned USS Peregrin.

Sample Roleplay: The site of Deep Space Nine on the other side of the wormhole was something that Gwen had never thought she'd be so glad to see. The curved docking ports seemed to beckon them in, and Gwen was certainly not going to disappoint.
"OK Jenkins, bring us into dock."
She could feel the relief on the bridge around her; the relief was almost palpable. It was good to be home.
"You are cleared for docking, Michigan."
Gwen smiled, one of not all that many in the last month or so. Getting back to the wormhole in their dilapidated state hadn't been easy, and with the deaths of the fallen crew on their minds they'd all found it hard. Still, they were home now. Home.
