Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in, forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day, you shall begin it well and serenely..."
That was Luca's plan for today. All the mistakes he'd made yesterday were now in the past. Today he would take the necessary steps to assure that he did not repeat those same mistakes twice.
He woke up with a start. Untangling himself from the confines of his sheets he clambered out of bed and darted off to the restroom to freshen up in preparation for his day. This morning held alot of significance to him. Not only was it a new day, but it could quite possibly be the beginning of a new relationship with an amazing woman. Millie had enchanted him last night. Though their interaction had been shortlived, he could not wait to see her again this morning. It didn't very long for Luca to get dressed and before he knew it he was heading toward the mess hall.
It was still rather early so he took a few minutes to chat with those other early birds. Three times he got waylaid into assisting someone with a few diagnostic tests. Always willing to learn something new he helped readily, but he found out very quickly that flying a ship and knowing the ins and outs of one were two very different things. He left those he helped feeling a bit overwhelmed and thankful that he'd chosen helm as a career rather than operations.
Finally he arrived in the mess hall. He didn't want to grab anything to eat before Millie arrived so he took a seat at the bar and ordered something to drink instead.
"An orange juice please," he said to the surly bartender. While the guy went to grab his drink Luca looked around the semi deserted room. It would be bustling with life in about thirty minutes. For now he would enjoy the peace and quiet.
