Etaera could sense the barely contained disdain in Esohn’s tone as the Vildar asked her to figure out why the Ohrna had fallen ill. it had stuck with her for some time after he’d departed the station, despite her best intents to move on. What happens if we fail? she mused. Would that be just a convenient excuse for why the alliance should be broken off? And she wouldn’t have put it above the man to poison his planet’s most valuable resource in order to do so.
They would have to proceed carefully.
She sent an alert out to all her department heads, detailing the nature of the upcoming mission down to the planet’s surface. She’d need the station’s best minds in science and medicine to ascertain what the cause of the Ohrna’s distress was, and what the best way would be to resolve the issue. She’d requested a discrete security team, in addition to engineers and operations staff in the event that equipment modifications were necessary. As the patient couldn’t be easily beamed up to the station, the large majority of the work would have to take place on the planet’s surface.
Now... who would be in charge of the mission? Under ordinary circumstances, would have delegated this responsibility to her first officer. But with the delicate situation, she had decided it would be best to lead the team herself. Sure, Jonathan was likely going to vocalize against her decision. And she certainly trusted her staff completely. But it was a matter of appearances, and right now, she needed to do her best to ensure there was nothing the Vildar could protest.
She advised her department heads to have the officers who would be going down to the planet report to the main transporter room, before heading there herself. She would quickly brief the crew members involved, before beaming down to the surface. They couldn’t afford to waste any time.
