Kioni yawned, despite herself. She had not been sleeping much lately and was not drinking her weight in replicated raktajino as she often did either. Her research had consumed her yet again. It had been months since she had made any further strides in her understanding of Irumodic syndrome and it was beginning to affect her performance and self esteem. Her resolve, however, remained firm.
A civilian slept soundly on a bed nearby. The doctor had applied a delta wave inducer to his forehead to put him to sleep for the surgery she had just performed on him but also to increase the speed of the natural healing process. Other than this operation, her shift had been rather uneventful. It would only be a few more hours until she could send him home and only a few more hours after that before she could resume her research in her quarters or the lab.
Another yawn and Kioni succumbed to her desire for caffeine. Hypothetically, she had numerous other stimulants at her disposal but it always brought her mind back to that junkie in medical school who crashed during the final exams and lost their spot as valedictorian.
"Computer, one raktajino."
The Lieutenant looked over the blue mug as she took it from the replicator. It appeared large in her elfin hand. She sipped the oily substance silently and looked through various patient files. However her eyes were occupied though, her mind was on her research. Her furrowed brow, to a trained eye, might be an indicator of that.
