As the beam materialized the Y'angdar, there were only two who moved. The Y'angdar Captain, still buoyed by the chemical from the pill he had crushed in his tongue earlier, and the female engineer who would one day be hailed as the genetic anomaly who set their species on the track away from fright paralysis. While she was in no way immune to it, she had a higher tolerance, which was why she had been chosen to take care of the vessel, the one that was most likely scraps in space by now.
Having been in a seated position upon beam-out, she was ill-prepared to catch herself when she solidified and she fell onto her butt. The Captain walked over and helped her up. "Where are we," he asked.
The pair looked around. There was a strange sort of vehicle in the corner, and containers reaching up as far as the eye could see.
"Is this where they store their dead," the Captain asked, his fingers twitching nervously. "Are we prisoners now?"
"There is someone up there," she pointed to the control area of the Cargo Bay. Her brow furrowed deeply. "Where are the others?" The two who had been helping them, and the representatives of the Coalition were missing. At the thought of the Mistress, she sighed. "I have failed-"
The Captain put up a hand, stopping her. "You did more than I asked," he said gently. "And what I asked was too much. The fault is no one's. We can stand her blaming ourselves, but it is nonproductive."
There was movement to the right of him and he watched one of his own start to rise, look around, then freeze again and fall back to the ground.
"This is going to take some time," the female replied.
Knowing full well from his own experiences with the freeze that the minds were still active and the crew awake, the Captain cleared his throat. "I know this is scary, but all indications from these Talon aliens show that they are friendly. Please...try to calm yourselves. I need you upright when they arrive."
Easier said than done...
