Ruune had spent some time attempting to reach his quarters and it was only now that he had managed to reach the correct deck. The power had flickered off almost immediately after stepping out of the lift. It was rather lucky, not that he really believed that sort of thing.
Whilst he had keener eyesight than most beings on the station, the lack of light was still a nuisance as he was unsure just how far or close he was to his quarters. And so, he walked and he sniffed, trying to find a clue that would award him with the correct door.
After a while of walking, two people had passed him, in a rush to try and get to their duty stations or find out what had happened. One of them had bumped into him and immediately, Ruune could smell the fear from the man. A realisation of who the man had bumped into had funnily enough, calm him down and allowing him to go on his merry way.
A few more minutes passed and Ruune paused when he saw a light strobing randomly from around the next corner. He approached and as soon as he saw the source of the light, he was met by a girly scream.
"Intruder!" A man's voice yelled (screamed) out, followed by a yelp from a woman. "Damn it, I told you we should have got that phaser!" Said the man as he bravely stepped forward, raising his arms in front of the woman behind him. "Stay back!"
Ruune simply stared at the pair starfleet officers in front of him. Despite it being dark, he was surprised that the two did not seem to be aware of who he was. He had been on the station for a fair amount of time by now... surely they had heard of him? Perhaps they were new to the station.
"I am not your enemy." Ruune said calmly, neither his words or his deep voice helping to soothe the pair of officers.
"The hell you are, what have you done with the station!?" The man interrogated further.
This was ridiculous, if Ruune wanted to do harm, he would have already had the pair of imbeciles on the floor.
"My name is Ruune, I was-"
"We don't care what your name is, you're just-"
Another interruption, but it was not from Ruune but another voice, a loud cry of panic from behind the nearest doors. The trio of people in the corridor all snapped their gaze to the source. All three of them took a step but then stopped.
"You stay right there!" Said the woman, aiming the beam of her flashlight's illumination strictly on the Hirogen. For the moment, the large alien decided to do what they wished, for fear they may do something incredibly stupid.
The two fleeters approached the door, trying to get it open but there were having very a little luck. Another sound escaped through the doors, quieter than before.
"Hello, do you need help?!" Called out the man and after a second more of watching the officers attempt to vainly open the door, Ruune acted. He stepped forward, ignoring the chants of 'stop' and 'what are you doing?'. Grabbing at the man's shoulder, he pulled him away from the door before refocusing his fingers on the doors themselves.
Ruune struggled but eventually the door yielded to his strength and upon opening several inches, it snapped open the rest of the way. Instantly, the mammoth of a man stepped forward to observe the situation. There was a young girl, a teenager and it seemed that she was trapped, her legs were under what appeared to be a large heavy shelf.
In a flash, Ruune was by the girl's side and studying her predicament. The two officers had now entered the room.
"What are you waiting for, get that thing off her!" Said the man, knowing now that the alien guy could easily lift the offending shelf away from the poor girl. "Help her!"
Ruune ignored the man before settling his eyes on the woman. "Give me your flashlight." He ordered. The woman hesitantly gave the Hirogen their only source of proper illumination. With the light in hand, Ruune got onto his knees and saw that there was a potential issue in raising the shelf.
There was a glass item and it looked just about ready to shatter, any movement could send the shards right into the teenager's leg.
"Stay calm." Ruune said to the girl, hoping that even his gruff voice will allow some level of comfort to get through.
"I require your assistance," Ruune said after standing up to face the two starfleet officers. He explained the situation, the danger of the glass and suddenly the man seemed somewhat embarrassed about his words too, as did the woman. "I require cloth and you on the other side."
Eventually, the trio were in position, the woman was holding the flashlight, as well as lightly gripping the little girl's hand. The man was on the other side, positioning the cloth they found, just between the glass item and the girl's leg.
"I will raise the shelf in three seconds... two... one..." And the Hirogen heaved, lifting the shelf up. A few objects fell onto the ground, mostly missing the girl but they were very harmless except for the glass heirloom. It felt onto the fabric which was being held by the man and to his credit, he reacted quickly to help mould the cloth in such a way as to soften the fall, preventing the item from shattering.
Placing the shelf upright once more, Ruune briefly wondered how it had fallen over in the first place. There had been no malfunctions with the inertial dampeners or gravity, as far as he knew from where he had been travelling. Ruune turned back to the group and saw the teenager hugging the woman, "Thank you." The young girl said in Ruune's direction.
Ruune merely nodded in response.
"We'll stay with her for the moment, not as if we can get off this deck very easily anyway." Said the man, approaching Ruune. He paused for a moment. "I'm sorry about earlier, I just panicked... you're not exactly a sight for sore eyes in the dark, well, I guess now you are." He said with a smile.
Ruune nodded once more and with that, left to find his quarters.
End Ruune
