It took much convincing to get the Y'angdar Captain onto the transporter pad. As the alien explained to Kealan along the way, the medication he had used, which had been surgically implanted into his tongue, was beginning to wear off. Soon, he would be just as susceptible to freezing and falling as the rest of his crew. Kealan coaxed and calmed him until he finally acquiesced and stepped up onto the pad alongside the Talon's Captain. To his credit, the Y'angdar was still upright after the beam reformed his molecules back into proper formation. He seemed visibly curious about the crew they passed on the way to the conference room and Kealan did his best to educate him about any non-humans in the mix.
"Here we are," Kealan finally said as they reached their destination. Tapping his codes into the keypad, he made sure the room was empty after the door slid open, then motioned the Y'angdar inside. "Please, have a seat. Can I get you anything?"
"No, Captain," the alien replied. "Anything orally would hasten the removal of the medication. "I need to get through this without embarrassing the Y'angdar further.
Kealan nodded, but ordered an energy drink for himself before sitting down at the long table. "What do you hope to get from the Therys," he asked after taking a sip.
"Get?"
"By joining their Coalition. What are they offering?"
"Oh..." The Y'angdar looked embarrassed. "Protection," he said. "There are forces out there too powerful for us to defend against. The Therys Coalition is strong and many."
Every word, every nuance was tucked away in Kealan's brain. "And what do they ask in return?"
Thick-lidded eyes blinked at him. "I...they offered to help."
"Who initiated the contact," Kealan asked.
"The Y'angdar. After-" He cleared his throat. "The Y'angdar have heard stories about the Therys. Our enemies are theirs."
Taking another sip, he watched the alien Captain over the rim of his glass. This was not a species skilled in negotiation.
Taking a moment to handle another matter, he quickly sent a message to one of his officers, and then tapped his combadge, calling the Station's Captain. "Captain Monroe to Captain Raal. Lieutenant Kelsey Lapham should be with you shortly. I am currently with the Y'angdar delegation in one of the Station's executive meeting rooms. Please let me know if you need further assistance."
As soon as he finished, both he and the Y'angdar Captain glanced over at the door as it opened once again.
