Matthew had been sitting in front of his desk in a corner of one on of the many levels of engineering he had been doing reports, filling out requests and approving enlisted transfers and sending all the other up the chain.
There was a firm knock on wall and Matthew looked up from his PADD. "Oh. Ensign Hayes is it?" Matthew asked as he nodded towards the stool, and it was a stool, on the other side of his desk. Placing his PADD down he took the one that was offered to him by the ensign. "Yes sir." Hayes responded while trying to get comfortable on the stool.
"Just transferred from Starbase 375, two years service, no infractions, good work history..." Matthew glanced back at the ensign. "Speciality is... oh good, fusion reactor control and maintenance. glancing through the rest of the PADD Matthew gave his authorisation for the officer to begin work.
Standing up and signalling for the ensign to do the same he handed Hayes the PADD back to take it someone it data processing to get fully filled in. "Welcome to Starbase Gamma Etimon." Matt said as he shook the ensigns hand.
"Thank you sir." was the reply, Matthew nodded and the ensign left to go get all her ducks in a row. Sitting back down Matthew picked the PADD he had earlier back up and sighed. "What am I to do with you?" he mumbled to himself. He was looking at another ensign one who had a propensity for drunkenness.
Rubbing his face he was interrupted by one of his best subordinates a chief petty officer who was far older, wiser and more experienced than he. "Sir did you say something?" the older man asked.
"In a way." Matthew handed the chief his PADD. "I'm at a loss to do with him, he is drunk a lot but its off duty and he usually tries his luck with women and gets knocked back and then they rightfully report him."
The chief chuckled and a smirk spread across his face. "The brig and bread and water." Matthew smiled and a tiny chuckle escaped him. "I would have to dodge the JAG's first." He replied before shaking his head. "I'll see what security says. Thank you chief."
Rubbing his face the chief paused. "Oh that's right you want to end early so you can go see your daughters recital was it?" The chief nodded. "Sure go ahead, just try be 15 minutes early next shift." The chief smiled and turning. "Thank you sir." nodding Matthew tapped along on his PADD as he sat back down and set a message to no one in particular in security to look up if the brig and bread and water was legal.
That sent he went and got through to more work, The shifts work report was going to need it's hourly update, so he began but his mind was somewhere else, his talk with Lieutenant Braddock.
Their conversation had been about his forcefulness a month ago when the station was falling apart because of the solar flares, but he got the point, operations and engineering needed to close knit and together, not something he was used to but he was going to have to be for the sake of the station and its crew, besides it wasn't an unreasonable demand.
Shaking his head he brought his thoughts back to the hourly report and was soon tapping away everything of note that had happened in the last hour.
TAG: Any.
