"I need help here!" Luis called out to any personnel that happened to be close by. "Let's get him to a biobed," he told two medics that came to his aid. As hard as the ship jerked he was sure there would be more injuries coming in and that Bruce would be the first in a long line of patients.
"Splint, Ensign Bruce," he spoke to the bed and immediately the overhead display lit up show the patient's vitals. So far everything looked good. As he waved his tricorder over Bruce it showed that he had sustained a mild concussion. Looking closer he could see a goose egg of a bump rising on Bruce's head.
"Get me a cold compress," he ordered a medic.
"Right away, sir," the man replied and hurried away to get what was needed.
"Bruce! Can you hear me," he asked the Ensign as he finished checking him. He was mostly concerned with his neck but there were no injuries there.
"Here's the compress, sir," the medic brought a bright blue bag back to Luis.
"Thank you. Oooo, that is cold," he chuckled a bit and then pressed the compress to Bruce's head. It would help bring down any swelling and could help to wake the Ensign up.
"You're going to be fine, Bruce," he spoke to him as he watched the vitals. Strong. The Ensign was strong and in good health. His skull was only cracked slightly and he should be coming out of it anytime now. The worst that could happen was Bruce would have a headache and be put on light duty for a few days.
"Bruce? Can you hear me?" he asked him. "If you can open your eyes and look at me."
Suddenly the piercing, staccato sound and crimson colored flashing lights of a red alert began. Looking up Luis was puzzled. This could indeed be the beginning of a very event filled day.
"Oh great," Luis spoke out loud more to himself. "Now what?"
