"Easy," Victor started with an smooth grin, "I've no orders to slay redheads today. Maybe tomorrow. It depends on the condition you leave my office when you're done."
“I always leave systems better than when I arrived, Sir”
Poor Bartlett replied with the kind of cluelessness that, coming from a computer technician, was fairly unsurprising. This girl's only got one oar in the water, Eden thought to herself, humor lighting up her features; cheerful expressions had a habit of making her feelings an open book for all to read. Fear of vulnerability had yet to grip such a benevolent heart.
The young security officer let out a playful scoff. "The computer, maybe, but I've seen your desk and it ain't pretty." Hopefully the joke would not reduce her companion to rock hard molasses. Maybe frosted molasses cookies would be a good dessert after crawfish, her stomach suggested again. "Don't you worry yourself Commander, it'll be like we weren't even here. I promise." A bright smile sealed the deal.
"Thank you."
Eden's only reply to Caroline's gratefulness was a light pat of her shoulder before slipping quietly out of her personal space. The temptation to slide into Commander Roman's was a force to be reckoned with although, like all feelings, they submit to the raging desire to be a good, faithful, professional officer. Eden was quick to remember that she represented Commander Griffon and no amount of curiosity or boredom was going to force her to tarnish his banner that went everywhere his officers would go; she needed to make him proud.
"The program is still picking up data."
"Of course it is," Eden casually, distractedly, let out as her eyes followed Victor until he paired up with the dark haired Bajoran commander. The woman could not help herself from a second inspection of the handsome man however his masculine frame gave up no hints.
Refocusing on the task at hand the young woman traced her eyebrow with the tips of her fingers, the action soothing herself from frustration. "So, what does that even mean," Eden asked bluntly, "Is the Admiral's guy responsible for-" words hesitated as her eyes darted to the men in conversation then quickly back to Caroline, "you know," the technician had mentioned a name but had not given it and Lieutenant Braddock had remained painfully silent so far, "or is his inquiry into the system just a distraction?"
Hurry up and wait was the name of the game. What a terrible game, too, when there were so many others to play.
