Personality:Spike tends to keep himself to himself on personal matters and rarely discusses them, he keeps himself professional on that aspect however he will talk eventually when things get too much. Spike is known to have a rebellious streak when he joined Star Fleet, this seemed to settle down when he almost got kicked out for his behaviour. He follows orders, including bad ones and tends to hold back his feelings about it until he is alone.
Spike is very competitive in games, fighting and other sports. He considers himself a warrior on the most part. He was xenophobic however years in starfleet has helped him overcome his way of thinking.
Spike is competitive at his job therefore is willing to stay awake to learn new moves as well as concentrate on anyone else's style of flying. Even if a mission is successful he will analyse his own performance for mistakes, something he asked his previous captain to go through with him. With that he will learn and attempt not to make them again. He may be skilled but he does make the occasional mistake if something goes wrong like the warp drive going offline, his engineer skills lack and therefore relies on someone else to fix it. This has happened on some previous assignments.
Background and History:Spike was born in Deneva colony to parents who were criminals, accidental birth he always thought. As a child he spent more time on a starship than any other place, constantly on the run from people his parents had ripped off or gotten into a fight with. Spike has trouble remembering them as they died when he was two years old to a Talarian they ripped off with bad goods. His parents were close to being Ferengi in his mind.
Spike's earliest memories was growing up with a Talarian family who had lost a child not that long ago. His life with them was completely different compared to his real family. He grew up with Talarian values and customs, often fighting with the other children, even though he was treated differently due to being human he did not let this affect him. Instead he fought harder than any other child, he was accepted by the Talarian colony. In his teenage years he did away missions with the other children who were expected to do the same. He was basically a Talarian on the inside even though his appearance was human.
When he was 16 they encountered a human colony. The colony in which Spike was born on. This was by consistence on a crash land due to an engine failure whilst he was flying the shuttle. He refused to take off his gloves to greet anyone and often insulting women who seemed to be in control. Spike again was left abandoned with his crew dead and as a means to survive he stayed with the human colony. He was taken in by a family and sent to Earth when the next star fleet came along so he could meet his grandparents. Often Spike wanted to go back Talarian homeworld, see the places he often had in his memories. Spike attended school for two years and applied to the Star Fleet academy as to him that seemed like the military.
Spike scored high on his exams and joined Star Fleet Academy where he spent four years in his idea of hell. He never took off his gloves and others often wondered who he was. When he had a woman teacher he often made a remark, people called him sexist but to him this was the normal behaviour. He didn't tell anyone his back story but guessed it was already on record from the Star Fleet which picked him up as a teenager. He learnt to work as a team on many assignments and graduated the academy at 22. He already had a black mark on his name due to his name and was placed on his first assignment.
His first assignment told him a lot of living with humans as well as other aliens. He was starting to lose some of his old ways. This was due to an incident during an assignment with the ship he was serving on and someone saved his life without any hesitation. Spike reflected on this and thought what he would have done and that was to leave the person to die. From that day he took off his gloves and tried to go back to the humanity he use to have. Spike had the odd assignments and slowly grew up the ranks. He knew to do previous trouble it would take a while for him to even gain command of a ship, so he gave up with the thought as began focusing on his career. He often stayed on the same ship for long periods of time as he hated the change.
Spike often just transported the crew around in a shuttle, the occasional away mission and taking control of the ship when it was red alert. He has his own moves to get the ship out of a situation, which he has done every so often when his crew was in trouble. He cared about his family and received commendation every now and then. He was a changed man in some senses. He no longer wore gloves around the crew he was with and respected the women who worked with him, even those who had a higher rank.
Spike has been placed in many assignments and was the chosen helmsman for them. He has exceptional skill in adapting to the environment around him when there is danger. Spike is used to flying a variety of ships and on his previous assignment was chosen to be the number one shuttle pilot to bring his crew to and from a planet when transporters were offline. He isn't afraid to input his tactics into a situation when red alert is activated, his main focus is to protect the ship and her crew. He knows how to separate the ship and has been in both the civilian and battle bridge, in that aspect he is adaptable - even though he prefers to be in battle. When there is a stressful situation Spike barely shows it as he is so focused on what he has to achieve. He rarely gets distracted when he is required to be his best. He is always willing to listen to criticism and push to achieve more than what he has previously done.
One of his highest achievements was successfully saving a colony from an invasion. It required a lot of hard work to successfully navigate through enemy ships as well as having to fly into a position for the away crew to beam down to tag the colonists. Everything that day was going wrong, after the away party went down the transporter shut off and the away party was stranded with enemies still entering into the system they were in. Spike ended up taking over the battle bridge when the ship split in order to distract the enemy ships, which was successful. The transporters were back online and all were transported to the civilian ship as they warped out of the system.

Sample Roleplay:Spike sat tensely in his chair, he was flying a shuttle and not aboard the USS Talon. He was chosen to fly the away team onto the planet as the beaming signal was being blocked by a field across the planet. He was fully focused on getting there is one piece, not saying a word to the crew and going over the checks in his head. He knew he was pushing the engines to get to the ground as quickly as he good as the USS Talon was trapped due to this field. He took a deep breathe and spoke quietly, "We are almost there, just entering the atmosphere now. Prepare for a bumpy ride." He closed his mouth and began manually controlling the shuttle as they entered the atmosphere.
He followed the navigation chart where they were planning on landing as he tipped the shuttles nose towards the ground, lifting up when he got close and carefully landed the ship. He let go of the breathe he didn't realise he was holding. The away party grabbed their weapons as he got up from his seat and grabbed a phaser. They were not sure of the dangers on this planet as he waited with the ship whilst the away crew went exploring. "LT Smith to USS Talon, we have landed." He reported in as he left the ship to guard the outside as he watched in the distance the away team scouting ahead. He held onto his phaser tightly, listening out to any danger.
