Personal Log
Stardate 85693.3
I have to admit, I've often wondered what purpose a personal log truly serves. If anything, it seems like a smoking gun that can and likely will be used against you if you ever find yourself on trial at the mercy of some alien civilization on standing before a tribunal during a court-martial. What can I say... I paid attention to every detail that was ever made in reference to James Kirk. What can I say? He's timelessly sexy, defines being adventurous and daring, hardly gave a damn about temporal laws and... let's just say if I were born about 150 years earlier....
Anyway... I didn't start this log to confess to a timeless crush, I actually started it to speak about my latest assignment as Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Talon. Any self-respecting scientist would see this as a revolutionary experience. Naturally, you have some looking to such an experience as source for publication after publication. Myself... I'm just looking to be thrilled.
I probably could have wormed my way onto the Hyperion or even SGE, but I think the Talon is where I belong. I have to admit, I have personal motives for accepting the assignment. You get enough pips on your collar and you start to feel entitled to a few perks of the sort. I'm certainly not going deny anything of the sort that comes my way. Ranking high among the allures is without a doubt Captain Kealan Monroe. And yes, you're not mistaken. As you can probably tell by the tone of my voice, there is some history there. He'd probably prefer I leave it at that.
Now, I have to admit that I've reviewed some of the names in my department. Some well known, others... well, it's ridiculous to think you know everyone in a fleet this big. Let's see... the first being Quin Vedan. He's a Trill chemist that was formerly stationed on SGE. It seems he's gotten board of the station life. He looks handsome. I'm curious if his hands wonder as much as his eyes. I may be wrong, but there's simply something about his picture profile that suggests he's at least a flirt. As long as his pleasure doesn't impede his professionalism, I doubt we'll have a problem. Of course, being a chemist, maybe he knows how to mix the two rather well.
On to the next... this one's younger... Kayden Tyrell... I wonder if he's related to the Kaydens at the Bajoran Institute of Science, Kayden Phaelan and Laurana. It's not much of a stretch to think that to be the case. They both have quite the reputation, and if this is there son, then I'm confident that he'll live up to their reputation. Granted, it may not be fair to think of him as his parents. However, he is young and can still be molded. I'll whip him into shape. Figuratively speaking of course... mostly.
Ah... now, this is what will truly make the experience: William Hunter. Part of me wonders why he isn't the CSO aboard the Talon. His exploits are renowned in 3 of the 4 quadrants. I've certainly read all of his work. My guess, he's the sort that can't stomach the bureaucracy that comes with the title of being a Chief. If it wasn't for that damned shower and the extra closet space, I probably would have done the same and dodged all the extra responsibility. With him having served there much longer, I'm pretty certain he'll be territorial. And it's a given that he'll believe himself to be the smartest man in that lab. He very well may be the smartest man... but I'm not a man. And who says that a any frustrations can't be worked out logically as they were back at the Academy: over a game ofstrip poker. Hopefully, the filter works on this thing.
Of course, there is a slight concern that Mr. Hunter won't be the same man that he's rumored to have been before. I understand that he recently lost his son. With such a tragedy, there's no guarantee he'll continue to serve aboard the Talon. I have to admit, having a son of my own, I can't imagine my world without him. Being this far away from him is one thing, but to never see him again. Well, hopefully, that won't be the case and maybe... just maybe, I'll get the opportunity to make sure the man I've heard about isn't just a myth.
