Through the gaping maw of the wormhole came an armada of ships, both Cardassian and Federation, towing a monstrosity of metal and technology. Deep Space 10 had arrived. The Cardassians were most interested in the agreement that had been made. Already, new enemies were popping up all over the Gamma Quadrant, and with the discovery of the new wormhole, it was only a matter of time before they poured into Cardassian territory. The Federation guaranteed that this would not happen IF a new station were put in place near the Gamma-Cardassian Moonbase. Tyne did not envy the diplomats who were responsible for this agreement, but he was not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. It was a tremendous responsibility and given to him after his achievements during the war.
It was bittersweet coming back to the quadrant, especially to this particular area of space, but Tyne was determined to put that dark place in his mind away and focus on the job. She had cut all contact with him. His actions had not been exemplary and he regretted how it had ended. Somewhere out there was his child, but he was sure his situation was not unique among those who chose life in the stars.
"Orbit achieved," came the voice of the science officer.
"Hull integrity at optimal."
"It's green across the boards."
"Fantastic," Tyne replied before tapping on the console where he sat, opening up a station-wide announcement. "This is Captain Donovan Tyne. I commend you all for your patience during this long journey and for all the hard work and overtime that was necessary to accomplish it. Your requests for leave are being processed and will be approved on a case by case basis by the Chiefs of your departments. Great job, all, and welcome to Deep Space Ten."
A couple of the command center officers began applauding and Tyne smiled. "Notify the Cardassians that a dinner in their honor will take place at eighteen hundred."
