Personality: Jeven has a discipline mind. He prefers to color within the lines and to stay as far from the thin line of morality as he can. As a command officer, he does not tolerate straying from protocol except in the most drastic of situations.
Like most Trill initiates, he experienced rigorous testing and intense psychological profiling before he was finally cleared to be joined. As a first host, Jeven experienced only a minor change in his personality. Like his compatriots, he described the change as finding a sense of peace and calm that he had never before experienced.
Background and History: Jeven Teel was born to a rather insignificant Trill family on the home world. Jeven’s parents were loving, but held high expectations for their son. They wanted him to make a name for their family—to become some one. So Jeven tried his hardest to be what they wanted him to be.
It was only sensible when he applied for Starfleet and was accepted. Jeven trained at the Academy along the security track, and excelled through many of his classes. One professor went so far as to suggest that Jeven was the “model of a Starfleet cadet: determined, disciplined, and intelligent.” The cost, as Jeven discovered later in his life, came in the form of a nearly non-existent social life among his academic peers.
Once graduated, Jeven spent a year serving as security officer aboard the Titan. While he found his duties rewarding and sometimes even challenging from time to time, he found himself unsatisfied. Shortly after his year anniversary aboard the Titan, Jeven requested permission to enroll to become a joined host. He was accepted both by Starfleet and by the Symbiosis Commission to become a Trill Initiate.
Many grueling and undesirable tests later, Jeven was joined with the Sula symbiote, a relatively young and previously unjoined companion. Thus, Jeven Teel became Jeven Sula. After clearance from the Commission to resume his duties with Starfleet, Jeven was assigned to a three year exploratory mission aboard the Sacagawea. In that time, Jeven was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade for exemplary performance of his duties.
At the turn of the century, Jeven found himself at the rank of Lieutenant, and servig as assistant Chief of Security aboard Starbase 365. At this time, Jeven accepted the task as Field Docent, and served at the requests of the Institute.
It wasn’t until Jeven was given the responsibilities of commanding the subordinates below him that he found a unique talent in himself. Noting this talent, Jeven’s chief of security advised Jeven to consider a posting as Chief of Security recent available. The Chief placed a few good words with the Captain, and succeeded and promoting Jeven to Chief of Security with the rank of Lt. Commander.
Jeven cherished the role far more than his early days as a security. He often commented on how he felt he could “do more” in his role as Chief than ever before, but his career was still yet to be finished. Seeing the command potential in his Chief, Jeven’s Captain recommended that Jeven complete his course set to join the command track of a Starfleet Officer. Jeven agreed. He returned to his former post and was instituted as Second Officer as well as Chief of Security.
There are times that promotions come with joy and times they come with sadness, and as war broke out with the Klingon Empire, Jeven found himself in the role of First Officer when the former occupant of the role was killed during a particularly brutal Klingon raid.
Jeven adapted into the role nicely, although solemnly due to respect to his former colleague. Soon after the war, Jeven asked for and was granted a leave of absence from Starfleet. A couple months of soul searching, family visits, and a kick-in-the-pants by old colleagues, Jeven returned to duty, nothing that he “ultimately had made an oath to Starfleet and the Federation” and he “wouldn’t dare turn his back on them now when they needed him most.”
Shortly thereafter, Jeven transferred to the U.S.S Talon to serve in the infamous role as First Officer.

“She’s a beauty, isn’t she?” a young, jovial voice asked from behind Jeven. He turned to see an unfamiliar Lieutenant smiling back at him, and gleaming towards the Sovereign Class in the distance. A number of worker bots still hovered around repairing the last sections of battle-damaged hull. But despite the ship's current condition, Jeven still agreed with the Lieutenant’s observation. The Starfleet designer of the Sovereign Class deserved any award granted to him
Though he did not say as much, the look of the ship was not what had preoccupied Jeven's mind. It was the people inside. A new crew, foreign to him in many ways. And if their service record was even half accurate, they had been through quite the journey together. That made for some deep bonds--bonds that might not leave room for any more company.
He knew it was not his job to be everyone's friend. It was not even his goal. His duty was to serve them and Starfleet to the best of his ability, to command the men and woman under him, and to carry out his captain's orders. But he knew the job required more of him than that. He required him to earn their respect, and that was the challenge Jeven was preparing himself to meet.
“Do you serve aboard the Talon?” the Lieutenant spoke up again, curious about the Trill’s interest.
“Soon,” Jeven replied. “I’m her new First Officer.”
The Lieutenant’s eyes opened wide with realization. He fumbled his medkit into the other hand, and offered up a handshake. “I heard we were getting a new XO, but I didn’t realize…” His voice trailed off, possibly to prevent himself from rambling in front of his new superior.
“Sorry, sir.”
Jevan took the man’s offered hand and gave him a pleasant smile. “No apologies necessary. What’s your name?”
“Lieutenant Russell Davies,” he answered, returning the medkit to his dominant hand. “I’m one the doctors aboard the Talon.”
“Pleased to meet you, Lieutenant.” Jeven eyed the medkit. “Don’t let me keep you from your duties.”
Davies looked down to the medkit in his hand. “Oh, no, this is—“ Davies looked away as he seemingly contemplated an explanation. “—a long story. But I was just headed back to the ship.”
“Then we appear to be going the same place. Mind some company?” Jeven asked with that signature even smile of his.
“Oh, no. Of course not!” Davies waved for Jeven to come along, and Jeven accepted the gesture in kind.
“So, Lieutenant” Jevan started up again as they continued down the corridor. “Tell me all about the Talon.”
