Personality: Midori is a woman who feels that she has a great deal to prove. Because of the many preconceptions of her race she feels like she is constantly fighting against people’s expectations of that and of how woman, especially slave women, act. Whilst Star Fleet has always been accepting towards her, the way that many civilians have treated her over her life has jaded her perspective on the matter.
It is one of the reasons that Yamamoto has been so steadfast in her position of trying to become an executive officer. She prefers to be in charge of a situation, the one in the driver’s seat, and she dislikes being ordered. It makes her a good leader but not a great subordinate sometimes. If she disagrees with a command decision made by a higher up she is not afraid to voice that opinion. However she is cautious to know when to back down and not risk her career over something stupid.
She is not comfortable with Romantic and Sexual relationships. To some she might come across as a prude but really she has just been trying to hard to avoid comparisons, even sub conscious ones, to the ‘Stereotypical’ Orion slave girl.
She is usually friendly enough but she isn’t afraid to let people know when they have annoyed her. Some will find her a little tactless but she prefers to think of it as Honest.
Is incredibly impatient both in her career and personal life, always wants to be several steps further along than she is, never appears to be happy staying on the same level for long.
Background and History: The beginnings of Midori’s life where not happy. She was born into slavery and till the age of seven it seemed as though she were going to stay in that position for the rest of her existence. She stared up at the stars at night hoping for an escape that seemed just out of reach.
Her life changed one day when, as slaves often were, she was traded as part of negotiations between two owners. It should have been a semi normal transfer however the two men, living on different Orion settlements, had to transport them between two worlds. Midori, known as Kanna at the time, and her mother, along with about a dozen other slaves, were loaded onto a cargo ship filled with supplies. Most of the journey was uneventful until they were hit by an unexpected ion storm which left their ship adrift, engines dead and life support barely on.
The pilots of cheap craft, having one a few actual working escape pods and shuttles, abandoned their ship and its cargo. Their ship drifted wildly of course and with life support struggling to remain on it seemed that they were all but dead. Jade’s memory of this time is foggy at best, she remembers most of the other slaves dying but she and her mother managed to survive for however long they were lost adrift.
When it seemed however that they were going to die they were finally discovered... by a Federation Star Ship.
It appeared that during the confusion their ship had slowly drifted itself into Federation space. The crew rushed the women to sick bay but only Midori and her Mother managed to survive their near exposure as life support failed.
This simple action of rescue, this act of kindness, saved the young Kanna from a lifetime of service to Masters that she did not wish to live under. Whilst, she was still technically property, she had been abandoned by her owners and using some loop holes Commander Yukiko Yamamoto was able to convince her Captain to allow the Orion women to stay on board and simply demand that they be a ‘Finder’s Fee’ for retrieving their previous owners belongings as well as the corpses of the other Slaves. It was a tense Negotiation but eventually the Slave Owner lost interest in the woman and her child, wanting to move along to other more interesting matters.
Having nowhere else to go or call their home, the Mother and child were given the chance to stay on board of the Star ship, which they readily agreed to.
Kanna was given more freedom on that Star Ship than she ever was whilst living on her Home World. Those early years were so full of joy as she got a real chance to learn and experience all new alien cultures. She joined the school on ship and worked hard to be the best, most intelligent, person that she could be, at her Mother and Commander Yamamoto’s urging.
Her life was soon filled with even more joy as her Mother, Loranna, and the Commander, ended up marrying. Kanna couldn’t have been happier to see the two end up together and took her Step Mother’s last name as a symbol of her new life. She also at this stage convinced her mothers to legally change her first name to Midori so that she could further distance herself from the young girl who’d once been a servant.
In her early Teenage years her Step Mother got a position as Captain of one of the many Star Bases and took it, moving Midori away from the more hectic life on a Star ship to something more stable. However this was when Midori first started experiencing bigotry towards her race and the inherit sexism that went wit that. Whilst the Star Fleet members were always very welcoming and accepting, the aliens who passed through the Star base were much more likely to make crash remarks due to the reputation of her race.
Her parents did what they could to shield their daughter from such abuse but after time Midori stopped reporting it. In her mind it was causing her family too much grief and she felt as though she should strong enough to handle these situations on her own.
This was just one of the many motivations that Midori had for joining Star Fleet, to become stronger and to become the Master of her own destiny, to break away from the chains of her past completely. Thanks to her years of hard work she was accepted into the Academy at the age of 18, making her mothers very proud indeed. Midori shipped off to the Academy and spent several years training, focusing on Security, Tactical and Executive skills. Midori knew from an early age that she wanted to Captain her own ship or base and she took every step that she could to try and reach this goal.
Midori was for the most part a model student however she did not take defeat well and sometimes would get into arguments with teachers early in her career. Because of this there are a few demerits on her record but she seemed to wise up after her first few years. She also gained a few demerits for refusing to take breaks when Instructors all but ordered her too.
Finally at the age of 22, Midori and her class graduated from Star Fleet Academy. Since then Midori has been actively working on Star Ships and bases. She is actively attempting to get herself into some position of authority on a ship or base of note.

Sample Roleplay: Midori Yamamoto strolled into the bridge with an air of confidence which suited someone at least a decade older and more experienced. The Red alert alarms flared in the background but it all became white noise to her, she was just so intensely focused on her destination, her port in the storm. She calmly approached the command chair even as the First Officer came in from her side.
“Captain, they just suddenly dropped out of warp and attacked.” The First Officer said to Midori, though the young woman never broke stride as she took up the Captain’s chair, feeling the comfort of the leather beneath her and the sense of pride well up in her chest.
“They haven’t responded to hails?” She inquired.
“None at all Captain, they’ve simply broadcast a message on repeat.” The Commander explained.”Surrender, prepare to be boarded, or prepare to be destroyed.”
“Keep our weapons locked and our shields up. Keep trying to hail them. I don’t want us to throw the first punch but if they’re raring for a fight we won’t be the ones limping home.” She paused, considering standing up for dramatic effect but decided to stay in the big chair for just a little longer, savouring the feel of it. “Put them on the Viewer. I want to see what we’re dealing with personally.”
The view screen blinked into light at the touch of a few buttons, revealing what was attacking the ship. Three Orion Pirate vessels were holding position, preparing to fire on the Federation ship.
This time Midori did stand but it was not to enhance the drama of the scene... it was to sigh exasperatedly.
“Computer, freeze program,” Around her the bridge, its crew and even the red alert alarm stopped, as though frozen in time. Midori motioned to three stalled Orion Pirate ships and said, “Computer, didn’t you think that this might come across as a bit insensitive? I said give me a random Scenario but I thought you’d know to not throw these at me. ”
“Please explain statement.” The cold voice replied impassively.
“Forget it... Just switch out the Orion ships for something else and-” Before she could even finish that sentence her com badge beeped and the voice of one of her superiors echoed out, asking for her. Without a second though Yamamoto pressed her badge in and answered the call. “Lieutenant Yamamoto here, how can I help sir?”
“Sorry to cut into your leisure time, I know you’ve already put in a lot of over time this week, but some of the security team’s been injured by one of the delegates when they went into a violent blood lust fuelled rampage. They’re going to have to take the day off to recover properly and we need the extra bodies. Are you available?”
Midori looked around for a split second at her frozen daydream of being a Captain but then replied, “Yes Sir, I’ll be right there. Lieutenant Yamamoto out,” Her little Holo recreation of Command was nice but it wasn’t going to compare to the real thing and the only way that she was going to get the real deal was by going above and beyond the call of duty.
“Computer save and end program.”
