Personality: S'rah is a bit timid when first met, a girl who would rather not advertise who she is. Even with the subtle features on her face and body, she tries to play it off as just markings, and is perfectly fine with hiding her heritage. With her Caitian genes being very recessive, she wants to avoid the attention typical given her species when they are around, and prays that she doesn't come into her fur like most Caitians do.
Despite her identity issues, S'rah is at home with a warp core or out on a track. She is quite athletic, her lean figure hiding strong muscles, and is more outgoing when it comes to either work or fun. Once she is comfortable with someone, comfortable enough to be her around them, she is fiercely loyal to them.
Background and History: Traditionally, Caitians can range from more feline to more humanoid. For her mother, it was the latter, with fine fur held close to the skin. This trait would end up being passed on to S'rah, as the young girl was born with a very fine coat that showed her skin underneath. Her mother worked as a medical officer on the USS Calleny, and ended up getting pregnant after leave visiting her hometown. Not being involved with the father, she carried her pregnancy on duty until she finally gave birth on board. With her daughter now in the picture, she decided it would be best for her to retire from ship duty and go into the more administrative and stable life of the hospitals.
As a result, Ktara left active duty to work with Starfleet Medical planet-side, returning home to Riviera. S'rah was raised the best they could, but even with Federation ideals, she found herself taunted by the typical kids of her species... many calling her hairless, short-tail, or mangy due to her less furry look. On the other side, her attention with the humans in particular was oppressive, as they all seemed to want her and be around her. She was hard pressed for a middle ground.
As she grew older, the taunting and uncomfortable smothering faded, but the damage was done. For her secondary schooling she began wearing clothes that hide her more prominent features, and played off what couldn't be hidden. While not effective in her home town or home planet, this seemed to work once she got off-planet, as the attention was more or less down to normal. After her schooling, her aptitude found her wanting to see the stars and do more. Meeting with a recruiter in the capital city, her intelligence, combined with her hobby of model-building and practical engineering led to an acceptance with Starfleet Academy with a plan already in mind.
That first year in San Francisco was a big change, a very big change, and she struggled at first to deal with the hormonal driven hordes of young adults more interested in having a good time than planning for the future. But she kept at it, and found advisement with some of the Engineering Instructors. It wasn't until her physical education that she started to blossom, as she found herself very talented, and enjoying the feel of the wind pushing against her face. By the end of her first year, she was officially settled into the Engineering track.

S'rah gave a small grin at the tiny model she was crafting together, the propulsion system of the model. The fine details of the ship allowed for generally a miniaturized looking ship once it was constructed. She wasn't even close, and she was working on her favorite part: main engineering.
"Its the MKXII-C Fifth Phase Matter/Antimatter Reaction Chamber, known as the Galaxy Class Warp Core. First introduced with the USS Galaxy NCC-70637. Part of the model for the USS Enterprise-D I'm building. I already finished that term paper you wanted." she replied, turning towards her instructor. She was sitting in the Engineering lab, with parts strewn all over the table.
"You know break is coming up, right?"
The Caitian nodded, smiling. "Yeah, but I figured I could get this done before I go. I'm not expected to meet anyone for a few hours."
Her instructor crossed his arms, frowning. "That's not what I meant. I see you still hiding away from the others. Hiding from yourself." he said, a very human quality of curiosity apparent on his face. S'rah sighed, stopping her work and putting it down.
"It's just habit, sir. I... I feel more comfortable like this." she said, adjusting herself slightly as her tail twitched. She stood up, and turned to her superior. "Personally, I feel more secure this way."
"Do you?"
"Yes, sir.... at least, I think so."
"That's what I thought." her instructor replied, as he walked over to his desk, and came back with a PADD. "Take a look at this, its a new opportunity for Academy cadets, and each department is going for their best. I want you. It's a bit of a distance, but you will never get another opportunity like this. I want you to consider it, but also consider that you would be encountering many races, especially outside of the Federation."
S'rah took the PADD, looking it over and scrunching her eyes. She looked up at him with confusion. "This is taking distance learning to a whole new level, sir. I'll take a look." she said, nodding before cleaning her stuff and getting ready to leave. The ship could wait, it always did.
