"High Mistress, your grace," Aurora said, curtsying and bowing her head. "I offer my most humble apologies on behalf of both myself and my companion. Regrettably, I must confess that we were ill-prepared in the knowledge of the customs and the ways of your people."
The High Mistress' gaze turned towards Aurora and she hissed slowly, her body growing tense.
"I find your lack of knowledge disturbing," Yurant hissed.
"It pains me that the only thing we can offer at this time are mere apologies," Aurora said. "Something we will certainly amend once our journey is over."
"Then what can you offer, child?" she spat. "If you know so little, then how might you offer me anything more than that?"
"Your grace, we seek knowledge, we don't possess it," Isaac said, looking her in the eye.
"And you wish to know of the core so as to further your unknown journey?" she replied, her body relaxing slightly.
"Yes, High Mistress," Aurora stated. "You honor us greatly with your wisdom and whatever you choose to share about the core."
Isaac stole a glance of Aurora. She certainly acted the part; whether she meant any of it, that was another question. It was definitely in contrast to how she felt earlier though, maybe the programme was growing on her. Isaac's mouth turned upward slightly.
He peered back up towards Yurant as he heard the padding of feet on marble. She walked down the stairs and stood about ten feet away from them.
"Perhaps it would be better if I showed you," she said, positioning her hands to form a diamond shape with her fingers. Her eyes began to glow bright yellow, and she raised up off the ground. A high-pitched roar emanated from Yurant, followed by a set of large doors opening directly in front of them. The roar subsided and the light flowing from Yurant's eyes and the doors subsided, revealing a chamber beyond.
"Follow," Yurant said bluntly.
Isaac slowly walked behind the woman, his eyes following her curiously. The chamber she was leading them into was smaller than the previous one, but the amber glow and lack of any other light made the place feel a lot more intimidating. He stared at the source of the glow, his eyes bugging.
Preserved in the same material that made the High Mistress' throne lay a man... or was it a woman... or was it a creature? Several vines wrapped around the floating chunk of rock, seemingly holding it in place. A small podium sat at the foot of the rock, with a large sapphire-like gem embedded in the middle, though it seemed out of place. For such a nature-oriented place, the bright blue gem gave of an aura of unwelcome, perhaps even forbidden power.
The High Mistress approached the podium and placed her hands around the large blue hemisphere. Isaac stood to one side, watching her as her entire body glowed blue and the room darkened. Yurant's body shook violently and Isaac ran towards her, fearing for her life. She then tensed again and her gaze snapped rigidly toward Isaac.
"STOP!" she shouted. "The process is almost complete." The room then brightened again around them and Yurant's body returned to normal. "I... assume you have questions for me?" she asked the pair.
