"They did it because my Father won't let them take our energy. It's what they really want. The mountains and rocks and soil are loaded with it."
Ahska tried to recreate her village, but it was so hard to even get the placement of the buildings correct without a reference. "How long did it take you to make your memories," she ask, frustrated that it wasn't turning out the way that she wanted. Finally, she gave up and asked the computer to erase the village. "I'll show you the palace... it know that like my spots."
She produced a basic structure, without ornamentation. "Come on," she said, running up to Kary and taking her by the hand, "let me show you!" She shrugged at the entry, "it's beautiful, really, but you can't tell with it all empty like this." The walls gleamed with an iridescent quality, made from a substance halfway between gem and metal. They were opaque, yet let light shine through. She pulled Kary along into the next room, then dropped the woman's hand so she had both of her own free to gesture, which she did as she talked. "Over here is where my Father sits... Computer, large chair against this wall." She laughed at the structure of the chair, "he would hate that chair. Computer... replace chair with one that is metal, high backed... my height... with thick arms and legs, and a white cushion." Smiling at Kary, she said, "everything my Father has around him is white, so it shows his colors." She instructed the computer to put a similar table in front of him, long and narrow, lined with smaller chairs with no backs. "No one can hide something between the chair and their spine," she said. "This is where he holds his meetings. It doesn't seem private, but he wants to know when people enter the palace."
Her eyes traveled to the ceiling, "up there... I don't know how to say it..." she pouted her lips as she thought, "it is art... not something you would know... just a wonderful design. One day, when the Mehtak attacked, it fell and almost killed some of the soldiers. Father had it rehung immediately, saying no Mehtak would ever change things in the palace." She babbled on about other items that were in the room, then pointed to a door just to the left of the Ruler's chair, "in there... he keeps special things. That's where I saw this," she pointed to Kary's combadge. "I was only allowed in there once, and that was reward for something very special that I had done." Her face showed the pride she felt in that moment. Closing her eyes, she tried to remember what else she had seen, "there were things from my Mother... I know a lot of them. In the back, where he hadn't turned on the lights, was..." she opened her eyes, and touched Kary's uniform... "this color. I remembered it, because I wanted to know what it was, and started walking toward it... but he drew me back and said 'when you are older'." She rolled her eyes, then looked ashamed. "Am I boring you yet?"
