Beauty eternal.
At least, that was what the peasants called her. Not that Tegan disagreed. There was so much the young lady admired, but her position constantly kept her at a distance. It was regret, but one that was trumped by the joy of her role and her service.
Tegan was fulfilling yet another such duty in the moments before the cataclysm. In the blink of an eye, their beautiful palace was ripped from their sight, replaced by the untamed landscape of nature. Certainly no place for a Queen.
The search instantly began for proper shelter for Her Majesty. The soldiers soon found a broken remnant of their past mostly buried beneath the soil, but peaking out just enough to be of use for them. Even decayed, the Bridge of Her Majesty's old flagship was still a gem to look at.
And so they made use of it. The Queen, of course, retook her old throne at the center of the Bridge, and Tegan took her place at the Queen's side. As they settled in, the silhouette of their watchman approached in haste far in the distance across the gentle slope of the battered hull.
Tegan glared at the intruder, whom had forgone all protocol for the sake of haste. Not on her watch. He approached the broken viewscreen, which had long been torn from the hull and left nothing but a void in it's place. She stood, her robes falling to the floor, and moved to intercept the watchman.
"Stop! Who are you to approach in such a manner?!"
The watchman was out of breath and clearly terrified. He stopped, but his sense of urgency did not diminish. "Please, I must speak to her! Something has--"
"HER?!" Tegan slapped the watchman. He bowed his head in humility. "You are addressing your Queen. On your knees! Now!"
"Your majesty, forgive me!" He bent his knees and pressed his palms against the dirt-ridden carpet. "I have important news. I meant no harm."
Tegan turned to the throne and her eyes met with evergreen within the Queen's. His fate was in her hands, as was all of theirs. But this gave her comfort, for she knew no one was more qualified to lead her people than Queen Eden I.
