Pieces were coming together, an image becoming clearer. It gave Bernard a warm feeling when things found their places.
It also gave him a warm feeling as him and Aurora stepped aside for a private conference.
"The Ferengi."
Really, it shouldn't have been a surprise. Bernard had more dealings with the Ferengi in the Gamma Quadrant than ever before it seemed like, but he reserved judgement like the ideal Starfleet Officer.
"Undeniably."
"Their primary goal is profit alone. Some may have knowingly traded the cargo knowing of its contamination."
She was right. He hadn't had the Rules of Acquisition completely memorized but putting the health of strangers before profit didn't sound familiar.
"We need to find a way to contact that ship if possible. And keep them from infecting anyone else."
"If they were aware of the contagion then tracking them down may prove to be a challenge." Unfortunately for the Ferengi traders, challenges were considered good sport and Bernard was always ready to take down a plague-spreader; of course, appropriate channels would be taken and Bernard wouldn't actually be the one taking chase and putting hands on them. Wouldn't that have been a hilarious sight.
"It may also be possible to synthesize some sort of treatment to at least alleviate their symptoms,"
"We can surely find a space away from the chimes to work."
"And we should also make them aware of the Ferengi's Rules of Acquisition should they choose to trade further with the Ferengi... especially rule #47: 'Don't trust a man wearing a better suit than your own.'"
Bernard gave a small laugh at Auri's clever quip. She was right, leaving them some reading material about the Ferengi wouldn't hurt the Horisi, although the Ferengi's market might shrink slightly.
"Well, Dr. Viaen, you take the lead on synthesizing treatment and I shall be your handsome assistant, provided the Horisi gift us with their permission. It would grant us a great opportunity to get a new education," he said excitedly, putting his hands together in his tame way of expressing excitement.
