The orders made no sense, nor did the person Monroe wanted doing the job. This was something for their computer specialist, not him and certainly not the young man who sat by his side at the far wall of the Talon's battle bridge. "Every piece of data," he reminded the Cadet. "Every message, every footstep recorded in the past two weeks, delete it all after using the code you were given." Not that he had to say anything. They'd been working on doing so for twenty hours already, but he had a responsible need to repeat the orders. "Even if you think the data is inconsequential." It was a lot to put on the young man's shoulders. Already, the ship's computers were locked from being accessed from outside the vessel, and all incoming messages were screened for hijacking data before being dispersed, a precaution put in place sixteen days prior. It would look suspicious, but Monroe could chalk it up to paranoia generated by recent events in the Federation.
As the Cadet worked on his orders, Victor aimed to replace the deleted data with a rational semblance of fake lives elsewhere, on the planet they had recently departed. What deal Monroe had made with the officials on Horisi was not something Victor needed, or even wanted, to know.
Taking a pause as he waited for more holes in the system from the Cadet, Victor studied the man. He saw nothing of the sister, physically, though there were occasional words that were spoken in such a way to indicate a familial link. If he had to have chosen, Eden's brother would have been his choice as well. The Nivans family was trustworthy to the core. Still, he hated seeing Micah be subjected to subterfuge of this magnitude so early in his career.
Standing, he walked to the replicator and stretched his back. "Want anything?" They were close to being done, and that deserved a nutritional celebration.
