Osler-Drew was probably sleeping soundly somewhere, having engaged in marathon surgery on Victor Roman's brain. Primmin's medical staff had gone in bluntly, not caring what they disturbed or the future of the Chief of Security. They had one mission and that was to obtain information on the contagion. Without information on the actual death achieved by the genocide material, they fumbled around until they finally found what they sought, creating trauma to his brain in their wake.
The talented Talon medical staff had managed to reconnect severed pathways of nerves and vessels, but even with 2410 medicine, the brain was still largely a mystery. Victor could not be treated as one would with the usual trauma that was localized to a particular region, so there was no telling yet what lasting effects the patient would endure, nor what therapy would be needed.
During the surgery, more data was obtained regarding the contagion. That, coupled with the information from the autopsy of Williams, gave a clear picture of what they had encountered. As the organic matter died due to a failsafe put in place by Hunter, the nanites disengaged from their host and moved out of the body in various ways, creating a microscopic trail through the ship until they all amassed on Hunter's desk. The ones on the Hyperion problem-solved until they, too, sat together on a random desk in that ship's lab. The specimen on Primmin's ship clattered about inside their specimen container, trying to get free.
Roman's eyes slowly opened. His view was once again that of a starship's ceiling and he had no idea his location had changed. He could hear others around him, and feared that Primmin had taken additional victims. Rage was the only emotion Victor knew. If he had the chance, someone was going down with him, even if was during his very last breath.
