"Oh I can tell. Straight bacon. Not even any red beans, or rice, or the crispy fried chicken skin bits. Reckon a cheeseburger could blend alright if you had enough condiments."
His stomach growled noisily in response. Crispy fried chicken skin bits?! How did this woman see straight into his heart? "Want," he replied, but knew she, too, would be prevented until the swallowing test was done. Instead, he asked to sit up.
"Whatever you want, you got it, just 'cause I like you."
"Mmmm...oof," he said as she helped him into the position, her strength much more than her outward appearance would indicated. He had seen her physical fitness reports and wasn't shocked in the least.
"How's that? Look, we can see where patients come in and the CMO's office."
He didn't care about that. While she had said Micah was saved, she didn't say anything further. "Micah," the name was getting easier. "Okay?"
"Okay," another medic repeated as he walked up, not knowing what Victor was asking. He was carrying a tricorder and a small tray with crackers and a thick shake. "Glad you're sitting up. Let's get this swallowing test done so you can eat some real food." He glanced at the container of separating liquid already sitting on the cart. "I don't even want to know what that is."
The test only took a couple of minutes and the medic fed Victor both items he had brought, one at a time, while he watched with the tricorder the functioning of the man's tongue and the travel of the food down into the stomach. "Looks good," he announced. "Solid food it is. But let us know if you encounter any nausea immediately."
Nodding, Victor beamed a wide smile not in the medic's direction, but at Eden.
