Liz had just finished the buckling the sheath of the mek'leth over her back, pulling it out to test a few swings--just to make sure the computer had honored her full request, given the mandates of safety protocols--when B'ran reappeared, walking rather jaggedly across the gallery to join her. She raised an eyebrow, watching his advance. "Did you know you're lopsided?" she asked, not without a hint of friendly concern. He was, after all, supposed to be taking it easy, and she didn't relish having to face Osler-Drew and explain what they'd been up to.
"There you are. That's new."
She glanced down at the mek'leth, and swung it up in a salute. "This doesn't feel like a place to be unarmed," she offered, "so I asked the computer for it. Should come in handy." After all, she wasn't burdened with medical orders to take it easy. "Did you find out anything interesting?" she asked, sheathing the mek'leth once more.
"From what I gathered, it seems like you may have been right about the bride and our employer." Liz nodded somberly. Predictable. "The only hint I'm giving is that the bride should be expecting a gift somewhere between five to ten months I'd guess."
Liz made a face of pure revulsion. "I didn't know that could even happen," she said. The only thing worse than thinking about a Ferengi having...relations was thinking about what a human-Ferengi infant might look like. Or even just a Ferengi infant. But the first one was even worse. No wonder nobody liked their employer--she wasn't sure she was so hot on him anymore, either, no matter how much he'd paid their characters.
"I also don't think many people are in favor of this marriage, much less the bride. Did you have any luck with our mystery fellow?"
"Our killer isn't our bad guy," Liz said, folding her arms as she launched into an explanation of what she'd seen. "There's somebody up in that party who's pulling the strings," she said once the story was done. "Don't know why--maybe they want the marriage to fall apart, or maybe they're making sure it happens? Discredit Fahz, discredit us, and then they can shove all that madness into a dark hole and keep their political alliances steady?" It was a hypothesis, at least, if not a particularly steady one. And the possible presence of a Ferengi-human baby complicated the entire situation, but maybe whoever she'd seen in the tunnel behind the kitchens didn't know about that.
"Regardless," she said, "it sounds like he's supposed to get on killing somebody else, too."
