Armed with a sketch book and drawing equipment, Athena entered the Arboretum. It was quiet, peaceful, relaxing.
Her hair had been left loose today, with just a simple slide holding a little bit of it back so it didn't fall in front of her face. She wore a pair of white sandals, a long dark blue skirt with a matching blouse and a black hairband round her wrist, just in case she needed to tie it back.
After her failed attempt of making friends with Lieutenant Bandon she had decided to try and take up a new hobby. Art. She had no idea if she'd be any good at it, but you never knew unless you tried. Art also seemed like an interesting thing to try, a good conversational point, especially if it turned out all right and she carried on.
And so here she was. Looking around for inspiration. A long debate had been held over whether to try and draw people or plants and she had eventually come to the conclusion that as plants moved far less they'd be a good start to experiment with.
She finally sat down by a tree, crossing her legs and balancing the sketch book in her lap. Looking up at the tree in front of her she just stared for several minutes, letting her eyes get used to how the tree looked, the spread of the leaves, the pattern of the bark.
Then she put pencil to paper and began by just roughly marking out the shapes. Once she was satisfied with that she took out the rubber and removed the pencil marks that were in the wrong places, leaving her with a not too bad first attempt at the trunk. Next the branches and the leaves.
