For the USS Zephyr
Character's Name: Travis Yann (John) Rousseau
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Physical Profile
Travis is 6'1", muscular though lean and weighs 155lbs. Travis' hair is dark brown with strains of golden highlights. It has a slight curl to it that gives him a boyish appearance. A light shade of facial hair (the same color as his hair) lines his upper lip and chin. His skin is soft and tanned from many years of lounging on the white, sandy beaches alongside the Mediterranean. His eyes are a Smokey gray. They are by far his most distinguishing feature and the reason, his wife says, she gave him a chance. XD His lips are full and pink.
When he's not in uniform Travis dresses in a nice tailored sweater or button up. He prefers jeans to stiff, black trousers. On his feet he usually wears tennis shoes, boots or a comfortable slipper (mostly when he's being lazy and lounging within his quarters.)
He has a mild French accent. English is not his first language, but he prefers to speak it because of how universal it is. His wife is English so she corrects him if he says something incorrectly, but he's fluent in English now and doesn't have quite as many issues with the language as he used to.
Birthplace: Marseille, France
Preferred rank: Lt. Commander
Department: Assistant Chief Medical Officer
Personality:
Travis is hard working and dedicated to the job. He can come across as a bit mean at times and has a tendency to call people out on their mistakes if he believes it'll help improve the system or work efficiency. He knows what it takes to get the job done and he puts 110% into every task he has to perform. There's no room for errors with him , though he occasionally makes a few himself. He never makes the same mistake twice choosing to learn from them.
When Travis isn't working he enjoys lounging with friends. He's been known to kick his feet up, pop open a soda and laze around in his boxers watching a movie or two with his wife. He's not a socialite, but he enjoys company and large crowds as long as things remain calm. He avoids confrontation if he can, but he has been known to step in between fights if he sees one coming.
Travis is also very loving and down to earth. He adores his wife and their newborn daughter and will give his life if it means they'll be safe. He offers a comforting arm if someone is feeling down and isn't so egotistic that he can't stroke someone elses ego a bit. He gives credit where credit is due.
He's honest to a fault. Sometimes his honesty as gotten him in trouble, yet he's incapable of lying. To avoid having to he doesn't do things he knows he'll regret later.
Travis is not perfect by any means. Don't let his sly smile and vibrant gaze fool you. He has his doubts like everyone else, but he's good at hiding them. Showing weakness isn't something he does often, especially around those he barely knows.
Background and History:
Being born to two doctors, it wasn't at all shocking when Travis decided to follow in his parents footsteps and become a medical officers. Both his parents were strict about academics and education and he inherited their hard work and dedication to the job.
Travis' career began like all others pursuing careers in medicine. While at Starfleet Academy however he shyed away from the competitiveness that his peers enjoyed. The thirst to 'prove' herself wasn't as prominent as those around him, however he did pursue success, whether it be by the skin of her teeth or by a mile. He refused to fail and because of that he did fairly well during his four years at the Academy. He graduated in the top five percent of his class and his parents could not have been more proud.
Throughout the years after graduation Travis proved himself to be an adept medical officer. After years of hard, strenuous work he had completed his second assignment before he was promoted from ensign to Lieutenant JG. It was on his fourth assignment however that he truly had the opportunitiy to prove himself to his superiors.
While aboard the USS Eragith the ship was severely attacked by an unknown alien species. The ship crash landed on an unknown planet and several of the crew were badly injured, including himself. However he managed to ignore his own pain and help those around him heal. He delegated assignments, made life and death decisions that saved most of his crew and at the end of it all not only helped his fellow officers, but did his best to keep everyone calm in their less than thrilling situation.
This event strengthened his resolve and made him a more confident officer. When the USS Eragith was finally found he was later promoted from Lieutenant JG to Lieutenant Commander. That was a large promotion even for him, but he wasn't complaining. He'd done his job well and he knew it.
After finishing his fifth assignment he was assigned to the USS Zephyr as Assistant Chief Medical Officer. He knew how lucky he was to snab such a position on a ship like the Zephyr so he took it readily. Though it took a while for him to get his bearings, he finally began to call the USS Zephyr home.
His first year aboard the Zephyr was stressful, but during all of the ups and downs he met his future wife. They dated for little over a year and he proposed on her birthday. Almost eleven months later their daughter was born.
Currently he's working on being promoted to Commander and hopefully CMO (though he's aware that he'll have to part with the Zephyr to pursue that path.) He, as well as his little family, are comfortable where they are at the moment. Though his wife now has to stay behind with their little one, she understands what being a part of the USS Zephyr means to him (or so he thinks). He knows that their child will be just fine in her hands.
Name of Celebrity: Ian Somerhalder
Sample Roleplay:
He still hadn't gotten use to the fact that he was a father. Someone, this little baby who was so precious and innocent, was his to take care of and raise. This child would depend on him for everything for as long as she lived. No longer would he have time to think of himself. Everything was about Carine now. That fact was...well, it was frightening.
He didn't know anything about children. He'd taken care of them during medical school, but as far as actually raising one, providing for one? He had no idea what he was in for. At least with his wife there he wouldn't be alone. They could bounce ideas off of each other, comfort each other when they needed the extra support.
Yet, it seemed each day Victoria was slipping further and further from him, from their child. At first he thought it was nerves. She'd just had their daughter. If anyone should question the future it should be Vic, but it was more than that. She barely looked at Carine. When she cried Vic barely lifted a finger to comfort her. Could anxiety and fear make you distance yourself so much?
In the back of his mind he knew what her symptoms meant. Medical school had taught him that much, but he was in denial. Not Victoria. She would never hate their child, this small person they'd made together all those months ago. Depression or not she was strong enough to do this. She must be because there was no way he could do this alone. He needed her. Carine needed her mother.
Travis cuddled Carine against his chest and rubbed her back as she began to doze. He sat in a chair, a towel over his shoulder covered with spilled mike. Carine's tiny breathes barely brushed against his skin as she slept on his other shoulder. Had it not been for her sleepy whine he would have forgotten she was there for his eyes were on Victoria who was sitting at her desk fiddling with a PADD and conversing with one of her friends. She laughed, joked and made plans to go out to eat. She appeared happy and she was. He could tell, but not for the right reasons. She wasn't glad that their child was healthy, that he was there for support. No, she was in her world. A world where their two week old newborn didn't exist.
Travis couldn't believe his eyes when she stood, grabbed her jacket and left without so much as a goodbye, see you later. She door swooshed closed after her and once again the room was still. Travis stared at that door for a long time after she left. His head was spinning, his stomach was filled with butterflies and anger was gradually building up inside of him. Yet none of that showed on his face.
He had to breathe. He had to be strong. Carine was his responsibility now.
"Alright, my love. Lets go lay you down," he whispered, shifting up from his seat. Carine whined and squirmed against his hold as he stood and moved to her bedroom. Her world was so simple, so small, so innocent. He was very glad she wasn't old enough to understand the truth.
