Lane has a few flaws mostly his lack of focus at times, wanting things he can't have, and he can be self defeating.
Background and History: Lane Rendell was born to Allison and James Rendell in Los Angeles, California on Earth, on March 21, 2380. His father is currently a physician on Earth, and his mother studies Quantum Physics. His parents always instilled in him the importance of education, and the value of science to humanity.
His mother and father married young for their time however, the responsibilities of their positions forced them to mature, and they ended up being very competent parents, raising a young Lane to be a hard worker, and have a high sense of morals and honour.
Lane was privately educated by his parents and excelled at his studies. The cost of a private education however was that Lane never really learned to be as social as other kids. That part of medicine was the one he would always have to strive to do well at.
When Lane was eighteen he took the Starfleet Academy Entrance Exams, and tested remarkably high. At first Lane struggled to adapt to the Academy's lifestyle. He had always been close to his parents and hadn't ever really been forced to make friends with the other children his age.
After months of struggling Lane eventually found a friend in another pre-med Cadet named Tiberius. Tiberius found Lane to be highly intelligent, and Lane admired the Tiberius's skill with people. The two soon became inseparable.
With Tiberius to teach him the mechanics of socializing, and to get a grip on his neurotic nature, Lane became a more grounded and level headed person.
Lane and Tiberius ended splitting paths upon graduation. The two still keep contact, but positions opened up in different spots and the two fledgling doctor's went where duty called them. Lane to Luna and Tiberius to a exploratory ship as a Medic.
After years of work on Luna a position finally opened up on a real Starfleet ship, and Lanewas transferred to be the 3rd shift doctor, in the spirit of growth that his parents, and friend instilled in him.

Sample Roleplay: Lane took a deep breath as he scanned his patient started coding. He always took a deep breath before he re-assessed the situation. that momentary second of reprieve is all he needed. He began turning to the nursing staff, asking for the medicine he needed, the clearing of the patient's airway. He took the tricorder and made quick assessments.
"Let's get that BP stabilized guys." he calmly said to his staff, as he injected the young man with chemicals to force a restart of his heart.
"Doctor, BP is stabilizing." a young nurse said.
Lane smiled inwardly, the man had been close to death for day, poisoned, something nasty by the looks of it. He would need a follow up from Security, the agent could have been leaked into the ship by some means.
"Keep me posted, we need a bi-hourly assessment of his vitals. I need to speak with Security." He walked briskly from the Sick Bay and went to find an old friend.
