Second character for Ava P.
Character's Name: Luca Nicholas Dashwood
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Physical Profile:
Luca is 5'11" and weighs 147 lbs. He got his height from his father, but his olive green eyes from his mother. His hair is dark brown, curly and cut around his ears. His skin is reasonably tanned after spending long hours in the sun. He's been described as handsome, but he's aware that's everyone may not think so, so he doesn't let his physical appearance get to his head.
When not in uniform Luca dresses in blue jeans, a tee shirt or white button up and a light jacket. Though his attire is simple he makes sure it does fit to his frame. He does look a mess sometimes, especially after one of his adventures, but more times than not he looks put together and classy, just like his mother would prefer. >.<
Birthplace: Birmingham, England
Preferred rank: Ensign
Department: Helmsman?
Personality:
Enthusiastic: Luca has an almost childish enthusiasm about him. He throws himself into things with the utmost optimism without fear of failing. His gargantuan imagination eggs him on most of the time, but usually curiosity is the larger culprit.
Simple Socialite: He enjoys the smaller things in life. Luca can actually spend hours entertaining himself on the beach all on his lonesome, but he prefers the company of a large crowd of excited peers than to be by himself anyway.
Wild and Crazy: Luca loves getting down and dirty. He's the sort of guy that likes roughing it in the wild. Getting his hands dirty and being a scruffy, animalistic mess is his idea of fun and freedom. This is one of the reason he spent an entire summer backpacking through Europe with only the clothes on his back and map. He's not afraid of a challenge.
A Family Man: His family comes first to him. He'll do anything to make sure that those he loves are cared for. He was quite close to his father his entire life and when he passed he felt like a part of him was missing. In turn he gave his mother his full attention. Had it not been his father's dying wish for him to pursue a career in Starfleet, he would have happily remained with his mother if she wanted (though he knew he would not have been completely content.)
Attentive and Precise: Luca takes his job seriously because he wishes to succeed. Though he can get ahead of himself at times, he does his job well and never leaves assignments until a later time. His determination to succeed propelled him through the Academy and helped him obtain his assignment onboard the USS Peregrin. He's quite young, but he has the mindset of someone much older
Background and History:
Growing up Luca was a very adventurous child. Because his parents traveled a lot (his father was Chief Helmsman aboard many ships and his mother was a science officer) he discovered lots of things at an early age. Being the only child aboard ships full of adults, he learned to entertain himself. He would pretend to fly the ships he was on. At bedtime his father would tell him stories about his day. They would be so elaborate that he could imagine himself on the Bridge, steering the star ship through space and time.
His mother retired from her job as an off world science officer when she was injured while on the job. Because she believed Luca needed a more stable environment, she kept him grounded with her. They moved from England to Denmark so that she could pursue job offer to teach at a university.
After so many years off world, Luca began to grow bored with the monotony of everyday living. He wished to travel again. His mother wouldn't allow him to backpack through Europe to his displeasure. Instead he studied and did well in school. It was during his final year of school that his father became ill while on a mission for the USS Lamgard. The virus wracked his aging body and though he lived to see another day, he could no longer do his job. He returned home and fell into a sort of dull routine. That he missed the joys of traveling abroad was quite obvious. He rarely talked to his small family and only came to life when he told stories of all the adventures he been a part of.
Luca would listen ardently. His enthusiasm never ceased to amaze his parents. During a hot summer day he gathered his parents together in their sitting room and told him plans for after graduation. He, he said with his chest puff out, would attend the academy and become a helmsman like his father.
His father could not be more proud of his son. His mother on the other hand was terrified by the idea of 'losing' her son to star fleet. She'd almost lost her husband she argued. For his mother's sake he remained in Denmark for a year, but during that time he made plans to travel to San Francisco as soon as he turned 18.
Because he had no more schooling to attend to, he got to backpack around Europe for the remainder of his year. He saw Germany, France, Spain and Italy before heading out east. He managed to reach the Ukraine, before he was called back home.
When he arrived it was to find that his father had passed away a few weeks after he left. His mother was quite distraught. She stopped taking care of herself and he had to call in nurses to care for her.
Before his death his father left a letter for him. The note was wrinkled, the words smeared with tears, but he could read them just fine.
Reach for the stars. Live your dream.
Your loving father, Lucas
His father's dying wish was for his son to see the stars once more and he would. His mother went to live with relatives back in London and he set off for the US.
He applied for the academy and was accepted within months.
Like they say, the rest is history. After graduating, he did small missions aboard small vessels to get his feet wet. When he heard about the voyage for the USS Peregrin he submitted his name for consideration. A short time later he was invited aboard.

Sample Roleplay:
Moving along behind his fellow ensigns, Luca peered around himself, his eyes wide as he took in the splendor of the star ship. He was finally here, aboard another large vessel. It seemed so long since he'd traveled with his mother and father aboard a ship as gigantic as this. It was quite overwhelming at first. He would not have his father there to comfort him when he was afraid or his mother headstrong ways to push him to do things. He was on his own this time and whether he succeeded or failed would depend solely on him.
He stopped when everyone else did, craning his neck to get a good view of the officers ahead. They all looked incredibly confident in their uniforms. Their insignias shone like diamonds over their chests. They were welcomed aboard the ship and made to feel welcomed. Luca couldn't help but smile widely and he stood a bit straighter, head raised with confidence. A quick glance around at the other ensigns and he saw that most of them had the same wide eyed, enthusiastic grin on their faces. His heart swelled with pride. This would be his first long term mission and he was more ready now for the venture than he could ever be.
His father would be proud!
Soon the throng of ensigns began to move again and he followed, taking in his new 'home' as he walked.
