"So, I got this rather - interesting - report from DS9 concerning an incident at Quarks."
He did know! Yet, he chose to give her the weapon anyway. She couldn't figure the man out. Was it a joke? Was he going to punish her by making her feel that he thought she was a good officer and then take it back? That would be just plain cruel. She could feel the anger building and she quickly put the weapon back in the box and closed the lid.
"Would it be accurate to state that, because of certain, shall we say, atavistic cultural and biological Klingon natures, that Ensign Kinin may have been under the throes of a sort of temporary insanity when she turned to strike the one who grabbed he shoulder?"
What?!
She glanced at Renh.
"Yes, Commander. I would say you have the right of it."
He was smiling. Things were moving too fast and she was getting confused and frustrated.
"IDIOTS!"
For a moment, she thought he was talking about the two officers at the table. Then he continued and she found her heart sinking as Stetson talked about punishment. Wait. Nothing in her file? The matter was closed? What--
"I suggest that you restrict your "blood burning" times to a more private location!"
"Yes, Sir," she choked out.
"Speaking of which, that tank top is a little - make that, a lot - damaged. Please go and change into a fresh uniform. Take the claymore with you and secure it in your quarters. We'll wait for you."
She looked down at her outfit. "Sorry Sir," she said as she picked up the long box. Giving Renh another look of confusion, she cradled the box to her chest and walked out of the room. As soon as she was clear of the doors, she ran.
