"Did they separate you for all classes?"
"Everything after we reached 12 years of age," Reesa clarified. "The education of children is an extremely important thing," She explained. "It's more important than nearly everything else where I come from. They don't want hormones and flirting to distract from the learning environment." She didn't mention the fact that "play" and "sports" were also things that weren't embraced by the Cardassian educational system, but she suspected that would be a bit more extreme of a concept to the human. Humans seemed to always want to make time for recreation.
"A lot of the schools on Betazed actually allowed shared changing rooms."
"Betazoids seem to be a lot more accepting of their own nudity," Reesa said. "Humans seem to be embarassed by the concept of not wearing clothes." While Reesa herself wasn't embarassed by that thought, she didn't like the feeling of defenselessness that nudity left her with. Despite the fact that her skin was more durable than a human's, it was still nice to have a layer of cloth protecting her. "Although, perhaps this is because humans prefer colder temperatures than what some are used to." She still hadn't adapted to how cold Federation Starships could be. She fervently hoped that her roommate wouldn't mind her keeping their quarters a slight bit warmer.
"I was unfortunate not to be at one of those schools."
The blush revealed to her that he had the human trait of modesty and embarassment regarding his person. From what she understood, this went back to an Earth religious belief that went back literally thousands of years. Religion was still something that confused Reesa. She knew it was one of the reasons that the Cardassians had considered the Bajorans weak and uncultured. Only a handful of Cardassians still practiced the Oralian Way, and those who did had to do so in secrecy to avoid persecution.
"But uh, back to swordplay... I'd be happy to teach you."
"I'd be happy to learn," Reesa responded. "How does one start?" She didn't think that he would just hand her a sword and come at her, that seemed like it might be a slight bit dangerous.
