"We'll have a better idea exactly when we get back to the shuttle. Star, beam us all on board the shuttle, please."
They materialized into the shuttle and Kane immediately said, "Home sweet home." The very first thing he did was get Martin settled and give him a hypo for the pain. The man's eyes closed as the medication took affect. Kane saw him mouth the words "thank you" before he fell into a much-needed sleep.
One by one, Kane examined everyone on board the ship. It felt good to have a tricorder in his hands again. Jack, Julian, Robin, Eilidh, Herb were all fine. He made his way up to the cockpit and scanned Robin, then frowned. Spinning the man in his chair so that he was facing Kane, the doctor focused the device on Robin's chest. "What th'..." He looked up at Robin. "Why do you have an arrow-shaped rash on your chest, Lieutenant?" Without asking, he reached over and pulled up the man's shirt. "Good Lord." The rash was impressive and pointing straight down at Robin's crotch. "I know you pilots have libidinous tendencies, but do you have to advertise?" He quirked a smile at him as he let the shirt fall back into place. "Don't go anywhere."
Kane hurried to the lab, prepared a hypo, grabbed a few other supplies, then returned to the front of the shuttle. As he applied the medication to Robin's neck, he said, "This will alleviate any further allergic reaction, but I want to take a scraping of that. Never know if it's a parasite until you check." He lifted Robin's shirt again, and scraped a few areas with a tool which he then put into a vial and capped it quickly. "I'll let you know in a bit." Where was Hunter? He returned to the lab and prepared a slide, then examined it. Smiling, he returned to his patient. "You want the good news or the bad news first?"
Julian joined them and Kane paused, giving him time to say his piece.
"The medical team will be taking the Copernicus crew back up to the Talon."
When Julian was done calling the Talon, Kane held up a hand. "Sir, if I may. Part of the team is still not here. I would prefer to remain until everyone has been found. O'Reilly can handle the transfer." Mark, Hunter, Morgan, Gillian, Zakary, and Iresh were still missing and, if they needed medical care, a delay in treatment could mean the difference between life and death. Kane would stand his ground on this.
