“I’m glad we found you too Lieutenant,” he said. “Let’s get whatever you want to get and take you back to Talon shall we?”
She touched a shell necklace on a leather thong around her neck. There was nothing else she needed besides... There was someone else here near the captain. She heard the tricorder and it wasn’t coming from where the captain stood.
Chloe heard a footfall nearby but she’d heard several of those and was pretty good at identifying Laathiss and Pinkie. This was different though and she flinched back when she felt and smelled breath on her face. It was a rancid fruity smell she couldn’t identify. Almost immediately she felt Pinkie in front of her making some kind of growling sound.
The large presence moved away and said something unintelligible followed by a thunk thunk and roar.
"Pyle is dead," Van told the Captain. She had a hand on Pinkie but reached for Van. The whole subject made her want to cry. Even though she knew it was unreasonable, she still blamed herself for her inability to save him. "He survived for a while, but infection set in. He had no chance, and it was a painful, wasteful death."
Chloe hadn't cried except at the funeral. In all this time she hadn’t cried. Then she felt his arm gather her to him she molded against his side. He had been her only comfort for so long she couldn’t help wrapping her arms around him and turning her head into his shoulder.
"We're not leaving,"
Chloe heard the voices of the others nearby and their calls. She heard movement and then felt Laathiss touch her shoulder. She put her own on top of the leafy appendage that served the thin alien as a hand.
“We can’t,” she murmured.
"Not without the others."
She nodded. “We wouldn't be alive without them sir,” she added.
