//"Commander Richards to USS Talon sickbay, are the transported personnel accounted for?"//
Alyssa's hand flew for her combadge only to stop mid-tap. She hadn't realized until today how inconvenient it truly was to lose those little devices. She'd never complain about them again, that was for sure.
Before she had the opportunity to move towards the appropriate terminal, an unfamiliar voice answered the call for her.
“Commander Thornton here, we have received our crew in the Talon sickbay.”
Alyssa spun herself far too quickly for her own good. Another wave of dizziness came over her. An odd expression appeared on her face as she processed and adapted to the sensation.
Slow movements, she reminded herself. Her vision cleared soon enough to lock eyes on the newest member of the command staff. Commander...Thornton? Was that what she called herself? What was a commander doing aboard the Talon?
Jaivyn. The earlier conversation with Haywood returned to the forefront of Alyssa's mind. Commander Jaivyn had chosen to transfer off the Talon, according to Haywood. Thornton must be his replacement.
As the new first officer looked directly towards Alyssa, she suppressed the urge to straighten up her appearance. Although Alyssa highly regretted creating an impression in this state, there was little she could do to change that. She looked like hell, and that was that.
In a not-quite-slow-enough process, Alyssa forced herself onto her feet the moment her new executive officer began the stride over. Her nurse resisted Alyssa's attempt, but with a not-so-subtle glare, Alyssa warned her to back off. She was not making this introduction on her butt.
“I’m Commander Thornton.”
“Lt. Jenison," she respectfully replied. "Security."
“I won’t be long.” Alyssa looked to the nurse. She felt a slight expression of pity her. It seemed she couldn't win today. Probably wasn't the first run of difficult "patients" the nurse had ever had. Wouldn't be her last.
“Is anyone else in danger?”
Alyssa thought over the question. That...wasn't a simple answer. One step at a time. "Of my team, no. The only remaining member is Lt. Commander Sur'Shess, whom should be running scans above Etimon by now."
"However, the purpose of our investigation was to locate Lt. Kinin Alexander, our Assistant Chief of Secuirty and Lt. Robin Star, Chief of Flight Operations. Their last known location was in the Etimonian dessert..." Alyssa looked down towards the sand and dust on her clothes, allowing the obvious to become known.
"Which leads us to the bad news. Both of our crewmen appear to have been transported from the planet surface by means of a Klingon vessel. Scans in orbit revealed the likelihood of a cloaked vessel."
"Although I would prefer a more thorough investigation before we make it official," Alyssa concluded with no lack of regret, "It's my belief that they are now in the hands of the Klingons." There was more to say--far more--but in Sickbay, to Thornton, Alyssa wanted to be frugal with thoughts she shared. Unconfirmed suppositions could lead to dangerous ground. She knew in the end that the truth would be revealed, but for now, it was best to stick to the facts.
While Thornton processed Alyssa's report, her mind turned to the fate of Kinin and Robin. Her imagination held back no punches. The scenario's spun in her mind, weaving together a dark tapestry of the undesirable. Had they been interrogated? Tortured, even as they spoke? Or had their lives been ripped from the universe long before now.
Robin, she whispered from the silent corners of her heart. Stay alive.
